Hey fellows, I hope all of you are doing well and I wish you all best of luck.

I have a question if anyone can advise me. My wife arrived at the end of last month on CR1 permanent Visa. So far she has not received her Green Card or -Social Security Card, I was wondering if any one knows how long it takes and if want to inquire who do i have to contact.

I would appreciate any advise. Thank You

Greencard will be mailed to you automatically. Usually takes anywhere from 3 wks to 2 months, but most people have gotten it in 1 month. The social security card will also be mailed to you automatically if it was checked yes on form ds-230 when the visa was filed at NVC. If you don't get it in like 2wks you can look up your local SS office and apply for one there, all you need is the passport. Hope this helps. Goodluck

Please update your timeline, thanks.

The first thing with us after POE was a letter from the government welcoming my wife to the U.S. and informing her that

her paperwork was received and the GC would be mailed within 90 days. This letter arrived about 4 weeks after POE,

the GC thankfully just a week after that. As many of us found out, just checking the box on the DS-230 does not necessarely

guarantee automatic production of the SS card. We fell into that trap as well and after waiting six weeks finally went to the SS

office to apply for a card. While there, they will check the computer to see if an application is pending, so no harm to go and

apply for a card. That mailing took another week. Also, you should note that to apply for a SS, you don't need to have the

physical GC in hand; the visa stamp in the passport suffices. Good luck.
