The signature I used when signing the marriage certificate was my unmarried signature. However after marriage, I have been signing papers with my married signature.

Hello:)

To all who got married, been wondering of this:

did u change your handwriiten signature? In my hand written siganture, my last name is really readable. When i get married, should i change it to accommodate my husband's last name?Should i do that change when i sign in the marriage cert? and By the way, in the marriage license we got in Maryland, there's no space there so couple will sign after their marrriage. It is just the officiant whose signature is asked. Is this the way it should be?

Thanks for your replies.

when we went to get my state id and i signed, the officer laughed and said no no no, i need to sign with hubbys name now, gave me another form, we all laughed and i learnt to do it right there, and he said thats better.

So i think you ll have to change it.

Though it felt weird, like its just a signature!

i didn't change my last name to that of my husband so my signature didn't change... i guess if you're taking your husband's last name then your signature would change too...

where in maryland are you?

Same with my asawa, but I know she didn't change it. I've been intrigued by her signature though. It's not actually a signature, but more like a squiggle. Really, it's a very small design, like initials, but it's her signature, her mark. (Yes, she can read and write.)

She doesn't like her penmanship becasue it's very small. She prints everything. She tells me that since notebook paper was so scarce, many in the provinces learn to conserve every bit of paper that can get, hence the very small writing and the very small signature.

i didnt change my signature. it's really up to you. it's not really required for you to change it just because u got married =)

regarding the marriage cert, the county where we got married asked us to sign the marriage license only. After the wedding, only the witnesses and officiant signed the certificate.
