Hello everybody,

I'm getting quite nervous about this I-134 Affidavit of Support business. I've been living with my fiancee in Mexico for the last three years. I have had some teaching jobs at schools here in Mexico on and off (maybe a total of 14 months out of the 3 years) but for the majority of the time, I have been teaching private classes. I don't know how to get evidence of my earnings from the schools where I taught (I always just cashed the check and that was that) and I really don't know how to prove that I've been making money in my private classes. I have about $12,000 in savings. Is that sufficient? I mean, even if I could prove that I have an income here in Mexico, it doesn't really matter, does it, since I'll be leaving Mexico? Shouldn't the money that I have in my account be the only thing that matters? Also, I did file income taxes last year just as a perfunctory thing so that the IRS doesn't wonder where in the world I've gone, but my foreign salary looks very pitiful and I didn't have to prove it or anything. Should I be really concerned? Should I get my parents to sign on with me as a safeguard? With my savings and their cosigning (and they definitely would qualify), should my fiancee and I be okay? What is the sort of "recommended" amount of financial resources?

Thanks so much for any advice!

Two things:

Get a joint sponsor in the USA to provide an additional I-134.

And if you gave up US domicile, you need to re-establish US domicile in order to be primary sponsor of the intending immigrant.

Most consulates treat I-134 much like I-864 so have the same requirements (Past year's IRS return data, US domicile)

More info: http://travel.state.gov/pdf/I-864GenInfo-FAQ-Final.pdf

File your return late, US citizen may be exempt from paying tax on foreign income, but they are NOT exempt from filing a return every year.

If you are still living in Mexico I "think" you can marry there and do a DCF. Normally a Lot faster. You'll have to get a joint sponsor and establish domicle in the US.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

!! ALL PAU!
