Hi I was just wondering how long some have waited to get the actual green card in the mail after card production ordered email? I know it says 30 days but have some gotten it much sooner than that? I really wish they would let you keep your AP in case you want to travel.

Sorry, I'm confused by your timeline first of all as you have entered in the "US Entry Date" as Dec 2007 but yet everything else, other than your marriage was 2008. Secondly, being a Canadian as well, you don't need AP to go anywhere. Did you go the CR1 path? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks...

Hi Skykate,

In answer to your question, I got my green card 1 week/7 days by USPS after I was approved during the interview (oh, that was about 2 years ago or so...lol....). Hope you get your green card in the mail soon.

Hope this helps. Congratulations on your green card approval, Skykate!

Ant

P.S. Remember that 2 years minus 90 days later, you'll probably have to file the I-751 Removal of Conditions on Residence before your 2yr green card expires.....

why does my timeline confuse you? And I still needed AP to travel even though i am canadian...without it i would not of been allowed back into the US after visiting Canada.

Hi Jen and Skykate,

Yes, Canadians still need APs while their AOS is processing in order to travel. Anyone, regardless of country, needs to travel with an AP while their AOS case is processing. Otherwise if they leave and try to come back, their case will be abandoned....

I think the confusion here is crossing into Canada from the US without a passport and without a visa. And yes, that holds true, as a US resident and Canadian citizen you can get there and back with a Canadian citizenship ID, a US green card, and without a visa.

In my situation though, I didn't apply for the AP, as I didn't need to travel before the AOS was completed. I figured that I'd wait it out here in the US until I got my green card.

By the way to Skykate: Did you arrive here to the USA on a visit and then did the AOS next, as on your timeline you are listed under "other visa"?

Ours was about 2 weeks from 'production ordered' until it was in the box.

Hi Skykate,

Likewise, I came into the US as a visitor too, intending to stay for 2 weeks, but instead stayed longer, got married, filed for the AOS, and then got approved for a green card; like what you did.

I put "other" in my timeline too, as the category/visa I came into the USA with didn't fit into any other category listed on the drop-down box options in the timelines. For more info about my situation, you can see my VJ timeline (the link can found at the bottom on my signature).

Just wondering before when I asked, if you did the "visitor to AOS route", as not a lot of people start out in this way to get their green card (mostly others go through the K1, or K3, or CR/IR routes instead). It's perfectly legal to go through this "visitor to AOS route" way, but more riskier, that's all...

Ant

Hi AntandD I came into The US as a visitor intending to stay 2 months...when i started on here I was not sure what visa i came in with( so i put other) as it was just to visit for a couple of months...

Well originally when i was to return home from visiting we had all the paperwork ready to file for the fiance visa... he had been up in Canada with me over X-mas for 1 month and we came back here to get him moved to a northern state ( so we would be closer for him to visit me) while we waited.. and we decided we really didn't want to be apart for long periods again... so he said marry me now, today... he was so excited. my daughters and there hubbys kinda said thanks mom we wanted to be there lol But they were happy they have come to love my husband. ANd we are close enough to canada ( a 3 hour drive) we can all be together quite often.
