based on this guide here in VJ. it says that once we receive the card by mail, there will be a note stating:

"VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH INS AUTHORIZATION"

indicating to an employer that you must also have an unexpired EAD to be eligible to work.

and that EAD can only be filed once im married right? together with the AOS..

so this means that after i receive the SSN after 2 weeks upon filing it, i still can NOT work IF I DONT HAVE A VALID EAD?

also, i know that the I-94 should NOT be expired when i apply for an SSN but since il arrive at LA on sept and most likely apply for SSN weeks after, it will still be my MAIDEN NAME on it until november. (our wedding month) and if i ask for a change of name for the SSN AFTER I GET MARRIED, do i still need to give them an UNEXPIRED i-94???

:whistle:

Yes you cannot work just with your SSN, You need the EAD as well to work;

Regarding your name change on the SSN, once you have an SSN they will NOT ask your I-94; You can get the name changed based upon marriage certificate;

I tried to change my name on my ssn, I showed them my marriage certificate too. if you're out of status, or you don't have 76 days left before your i-94 expires then they will say you have to show proof that you're in status... so you'd need an EAD. You could apply for an EAD before you get married, but you'll have to pay extra money.

good luck.

yes, this is what im talknig about...theyl ask for the EAD and yes which i can apply for even before i get wed. the thing is, i know i wont be able to work yet from the time i arrive there (sept) up to my wedding month (nov) due to preparation and all.. so is it ok if il just apply for the SSN on november? EVEN THE FACT THAT MY I-94 ON THAT TIME WOULD already BE EXPIRED.

also atleast when i apply on november, i will be using my married name already...but yeah, is it ok for me to apply on november though il arrive in the u.s. on sept.

FYI, as a K-1, you are eligible to apply for a SSN from day 1 to day 76 of entry....

what if i wont work yet from the time of my arrival til i get married (sept - nov) do i still nedd to get the SSN or it can wait til i get my married name..

im just thinking of the i-94 validity...cus it says here on the vj guidelines, it has to be valid when applying for ssn
