I got my green card in the mail 3 days after I was notified by email. Then I got another notice by email saying they mailed out approval notice on Aug 25th but I have not seen anything in the mail. Just wanted to know how long it usually takes to receive that approval notice once you've been notified. I'd like to have it for my files, even though I got the card in hand already. Any ideas?

This is actually somewhat related to something I just posted.

The card is the approval notice. They often seem to send the email about it being mailed after you receive the card. If you have the card, don't expect to receive a separate approval notice.

In my case, the email I got was worded slightly differently. It said, "Card Mailed".

Thanks for the reply. I was just curious because with the initial conditional card they had sent 2 years ago, they also sent a seperate approval notice after receiving the green card.

The card, with the accompanying sheet of paper that you should keep, is the approval notice.

By sheet of paper, I assume you're talking about the mailer with the bar code that the card comes in.

I DID receive an approval notice in the mail. No card yet.

First came the email that says "Card Production Ordered on September 5". (When I checked my status online, it says "Card production ordered on Sept 4".)

Today, I received a letter in the mail that says "Congratulations! Your request for the removal of the conditional basis of your permanent residence status has been approved. You are deemed to be a LPR of the U.S. as of the date of your original admission or adjustment of status. You should receive a new PR Card, Form I-551 (green card), within 60 days" , etc.. The letter is dated Sept. 4th. It's form I-797C Notice of Action.

It also says the green card will come with mailer form I-797D Notice of Action.

60 days!! I sure hope it's a lot sooner than that.

I didn't think that USCIS actually calls the green card a "green card". But there it was, on black and white, on an official USCIS paper, from the director, Christina Poulos.

Then at 8:15 pm, I received an email that says "Current Status: Approval notice sent. On September 9, 2008, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this CRI89 PETITION TO REMOVE CONDITIONS OF PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS RECEIVED".

Oh well, we all know that USCIS can be inconsistent. As long as we get the actual card, it doesn't matter how many different ways they communicate with us.

we received an approval letter. the approval letter was sent from Vermont the day after the approval was posted online, and we received the approval letter in two days. the approval letter did NOT contain the "green card."

the letter contains the info stated by wifey246 and is separate and apart from the mail containing the actual green card, which we received 7 business days after the online approval.

"Congratulations! Your request for the removal of the conditional basis of your permanent residence status has been approved. You are deemed to be a LPR of the U.S. as of the date of your original admission or adjustment of status. You should receive a new PR Card, Form I-551 (green card), within 60 days..."

if you're looking for a reason why some people receive this "approval letter" and some do not, please keep in mind we're talking about the USCIS.

best,
