He certainly sounds a bit more alive than Kerry did, and about 500 times more alive than McCain.

I can respect the energy behind what he says, however, my trust for him following through on them, based upon his state/federal Senate history and his party, is pretty much nil.

Did you see the Presidential debates in '04? Based on that performance I'm surprised anyone voted for George. The man was a stammering wreck - not only inarticulate but totally unable to maintain a train of thought. He got so wrapped up in his own rhetoric that he forgot the questions he was being asked.

In all honesty, Kerry wasn't very impressive either.

What about this year's debates? Nothing meaningful yet.. and it's a few days away from September, 2 months before election.

These candidates are nothing short of pathetic, and I learned my lesson in voting for Kerry in 2004.

I dunno - Kerry came across a lot better than Bush IMO. At least he didn't insult the intelligence of the viewing public. Bush is and always was woefully underqualified for the office he holds.

He's really lowered the bar for what people expect from elected officials.

Interesting responses all but nobody could recall a single phrase that was really noteworthy from a candidate who is touted as one the greatest political speakers of the age, had a crowd of 75,000, at an historical moment as the first black presidential nominee of a major party and on the 45th anniversary of MLK's (who wasn't even mentioned) "I have a dream speech".

It was so generic Gore could have given the same speech.

He gave a lot of emphasis to his mother and grandparents in Kansas but his father was only mentioned once I think and his photo wasn't shown. His father didn't play a big role in his life but even his step-father wasn't brought up either. Those seemed to be an intentional omissions to appear like like Joe Blow generic (white) American. Nothing about Indonesia, Hawaii (not sure on Hawaii) or Chicago.

The weird thing is the fireworks in the stadium bit at the end reminded me of the Beijing Olympics. I was expecting a lip-syncing Chinese girl and underaged Chinese gymnasts to pop out in front of Obama's "temple" backdrop.

Nobody could recall? Or maybe they just weren't interested in answering your question.

I know I wasn't ;)

Who wants to recall obama's speech?? The more he talks the more he shows his real color.

Or maybe just maybe there was nothing worth recalling. I was really expecting something, anything after the all the buzz, the huge venue and historic importance of the event.

Instead, we got a recycled speech from Walter Mondale delivered with more flair.

He does?

Nothing wrong with his speech or his delivery IMHO - just whether he can deliver on his promises, and whether he can appeal to the working class to snatch their votes from McCain.

I think you're too cynical. Otherwise you're buying into this "Messiah" ####### that's been touted about or expecting others to react to it in that way.

There was nothing wrong with the content of the speech or its delivery. But as I'm sure you know - the November election doesn't hinge on speeches.

No doubt he can snatch votes from McCain, but in regards to delivering on promises, that I'm almost assured is going to be mostly forgotten when/if he becomes President.

That's true and all, and maybe I am a bit cynical too, but it's mostly because of the promises already made in the last few years by him and his party, with little follow-thru. Hence the atrocious outlook and ratings given to Congress.

The most amazing part to me is despite the utter dislike for Congress, people are going to vote in the same Congresspeople!

Same thing is happening back in Britain - Tony Blair disappointed everyone after the post-Thatcher tories imploded from their internal divisions over Europe. Now we're stuck with old school Labour Socialist Gordon Brown - because noone can stomach voting for that Eco-Tory idiot David Cameron. Only party that makes gains over there is the Liberal Democrats - and they've already have one leader resign because of a drinking problem, and another quit because he was considered too old to be taken seriously.

Obama did a good job.

I think this is going to be a exciting election. Both parties now have interesting candidates..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Is it just me who finds it funny when you hear senators say congress is broken and needs change.

It may be true, we'll have to see... but surely, we can say this about practically all politicians? That probably puts me in the cynical category, too...

i thought it was a good speech... but didn't care for the ticker-tape aspect of it either... the theatrics seemed a little exaggerated, especially when i read in the paper this morning that the stadium delivery was produced by the same people who produce Britney Spears's shows.

But it was a good speech, i thought. And i liked how he criticized the republicans directly. As for recalling a good one-liner, i can't recall! But that's not b/c they weren't memorable, but more likely because i'm tired as all heck, and can't recall much of anything these days... The one about "ownership" and being on your own was good...

But i can't recall it directly!!!

Great Man? HAHAAH what joke he is. He will lose in November, and in 4 years from now Hillary Clinton will run and win like she should have this time and by then you would hope the Democrats will have learned their lesson. Still no "bounce" in the polls as so many had hoped for.

Which phrase of the great man's speech will go down in history?
