My wife is in the Philippines and we applied for K3 visa. She is required to get a police certificate because she lived overseas (Indonesia) for greater than 6 months. She taught there as a teacher, just under a year.

Reciprocity shows she is required to apply for the police record in person. The Amerrican Embassy in Manila says they dont have an answer what to do. One person in the visa section said she should fly to Indonesia and get it in person! I thought "How rediculous!". Her "chief" said that he didnt know what to do, that it would be up to the interviewing officer to decide at that time.

I am NOT willing to take a gamble on her being approved! I want to do this all right, and get her here! But no one has the answers.

Finally, I thought to call the Indonesian Embassy in the Philippines. The man I spoke with there said he would get it done for her, but he wants $100 for himself, and also "something for appreciation too" in addition, for himself and for the officials in Indonesia, he said. That sounds very illegal, corrupt, and unethical to me, for sure!

Who is there left to contact for help in a matter such as this?

Thanks so much...

My wife met with an official at the Indonesian Embassy in Manila. He was able to get this police record for us, he said. Within the week she should be able to come to pick it up

The bribe thing is the worst that a person can face esp while filing for visas! The Govt. officers are sometimes hungry for money. Ask your wife if she knows someone who can be of help to get the Police Certificate thing sorted without having to pay. If her dad or someone elder among family, relatives or friends could help in such a situation, or may be someone in Indonesia can help. The Govt. person in Indonesia is asking for $100 and more as an appreciation, but whats the guarantee that he will get the work done (practically speaking)? he might even just try to play around saying that he would get the work done and then in the end do nothing and run away, so in such a case, its better to take someone's help. (in my opinion)

actually, through further research, I finally found the cost actually is $110. the official asked for $100 and anything I determined appropriate for a thank you to the officials who help. I had sent ehr my Western Union only $120, so... He still sent it off to Indonesia, to his co-worker there.

Well... I guess I know more than the officials at the US Embassy manila... hehehe. I could not get an answer from them of how to get a police report for my wife from Indonesia, but thank God I thought to contact the Indo embassy in the Philippines, and the international police officer there DID help. I was able to secure a police report from Jakarta Indonesia on my wife's behalf.

Thank you Mr. Embassy Official at the Indo Embassy!! He helped us, at cost... nothing extra. An ethical man there...
