Unfortunately it is the case.

sadly you'll have to file to adjust status again, once you leave for an extended period you're no longer a legal permanent resident

You might be qualified to file SB-1, but I think the chance is not so high.

You can still enter as a visitor if you are eligible (ie: no criminal record, ties to home country etc etc same as usual). But they'll probably ask you to turn over your expired green card.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

actually not correct... you cannot file to adjust your status when you have no status anymore... the OP's problem is quite a bit more complex.
