Hello everyone,

I just recently registered in this forum but I've been reading posts since we started in our K1 journey. I am now in the US, got married to my USC petitioner. I have been browsing thru posts to find out answers to my current concern but I did not find what I am looking for. My concern is this: I have a pending AOS application. I just recently finished my biometrics appointment & waiting for notices re updates of our case. I am 2 months pregnant and right now me and my husband are having financial stress. When we applied for AOS, we met the poverty guidelines and we did not anticipate having a baby soon. We cannot afford to have insurance and we are worried about this part. My question is, I am eligible to apply for assistance in private institutions like hospitals that offers help to patients without insurance? Will this affect our application? Your advice and ideas will help us alot. Thanks!

You have two issues at work. I believe the USCIS allows for public assistance when you are pregnant but a search I just did on the USCIS site didn't find any answer. You may have to call them to be sure.

The second is the guidlines of whether or not you can get public assistance varies from state to state. You need to find out if the state you live in allows you to get it. Some states won't allow it unless you have your green card.

Another suggestion - call or go to your local health department and they can direct you to programs you might be eligible for. You can find them in the government pages in the phone book under your county or parish of residence. If your county doesn't have one, call the one in your state. They are very pro prenatal care.

Here is a directory of health departments for the nation. It is dated, but normally nothing changes but the names of the people in charge. http://wonder.cdc.gov/wonder/sci_data/misc...e_txt/nacho.asp

Take care
