Befuddling AOS Interview Terminology

Hi all,

I received notice of my AOS interview on January 17th. My biometrics appointment is on February 23.

My AOS interview is on March 20th. I am excited, but too nervous to get *really* excited yet! :)

I have reviewed the "list of items to bring" to my AOS interview, and I am puzzled. Among the many documents listed, the letter includes a bullet-point which says:

-Provide all documentation establishing your eligibility for Lawful Permanent Resident Status.

What does that mean?

Earlier in the letter it mentions Passports, Birth Certificates, EADs, APs, Marriage Certificate, and "supporting evidence of your relationship" -- all as individual bullet-points in the list of items to bring.

So, is "Eligibility for Lawful Permanent Resident Status" something separate entirely? What am I forgetting?

Thank you for the clarification! I am grateful that so many VJ'ers are helpful and supportive.

Sincerely,

Lisa (and Brian)

An addendum --

I just realized that another VJ couple (slaughterj) recently posed the EXACT SAME QUESTION. We must have been writing our posts at a similar time! Oooops. :-)

Please use that thread if it is more convenient. My apologies!

Sincerely,

Hey guys! :D Funny coincidence!

Basically, to prove your eligibility for Permanent Residency you need to bring documents that prove you are entitled to receive the benefits you seek. In your case, since you are adjusting as the spouse of a USC, you would need to show that you are married to a USC (marriage certificate), that your spouse is a USC (spouse's birth certificate), and that you are adjusting from an acceptable and legal status (I-94 and visa). For someone who adjusts through marriage, all of this is, of course, included in the bullet-point list, so you don't need to worry about anything extra!

US Citizen since August 09.

I think this is basically your AOS application plus originals of the supporting documents.

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

10-21-2005 AOS fingerprint notice for 12-08-2005

11-07-2005 AP approved

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)

03-01-2006 AOS interview -- approved; received stamp in the passport

03-13-2006 Green card arrived in the mail

Lisa,

You are eligible for status as an LPR because you have married a US citizen after entering the USA using a K1 visa.
