Seriously though its the height of hypocrisy is what it is. Obama is termed elitist because of his lifestyle, yet McCain is apparently a man of the people because he totally isn't a multi-millionaire (i.e. a member of the elite social strata).

Besides the concept of elitism is simple an example of people wanting to appear more intelligent than they are. Used be that "snob" would have been the appropriate word in this context, but now it seems we've graduated to "elitist". Exact same meaning - but it sounds more important.

The irony of course - is that using the high-sounding, 3-syllable word where a one-syllable 4 letter word will do equally well is itself elitist

Like one of my not so good uni lecturers who baffled the class by deliberately tarting up her lectures with archaic words scoured from the dictionary. When someone says "parsimonious" instead of "simple" you know they're talking out of their #######.
