Now I'm curious. What is it you think that America should be?

Definitely one without Pandas.

Would that be pandering pandas?

I wonder if there's a picture of a panda dressed up as a pimp...

No, but it is well documented that Pandas disguise as other species to perpetuate their lives of crime.....

Immigration is in a sense social engineering. It is basically shaping America into someones' image of what they think America should be. No...this is not inevitable. It is imposed on us by Congress. Often times against the wishes of a vast majority of their constituents. However, sometimes it is the wish of their constituents (as is the case with Rep. Luis Gutierrez-D-Illinois). He loves Hispanic illegal aliens. He's made a career out of them.

America isn't just some big plantation run for the benefit of big business and their minions in government. It is not inevitable that any country alter its character to suit the needs of the elites. Nor is immigration intended to be a big charity event or employment agency for the world. There was a moratorium on mass immigration from 1920 to 1965 because many could see it was getting out of control and against the national interest. It happened then and it can certainly happen again now.

Now I'm curious. What is it you think that America should be?

I thought I covered that in the preceeding paragraph (on the subject of immigration). But I can also post my graph again to stress my point.

Immigration is way too high. It is far above historical norms. It is far above what other countries in the world take in. A huge amount of modern immigration is illegal and something most Americans had no idea was being imposed upon us. The Clinton and Bush administrations got around legislated immigration quotas by deliberately and actively not enforcing the law. They control their cabinets and those cabinets enforce and administer the laws. However, Bush is the worst of the lot in pandering to his cheap labor cronies and publicizing his policy of actively hobbling enforcement of immigration laws. Modern immigration has turned into just another mass marketed money making operation that goes hand in hand with all the other excesses America has bought into in recent years. Immigration to America has morphed into something it never was originally intended to be.

It's like the housing and financial crisis. Just another mess that needs to be cleaned up after the crooks run away with the money. And there is a vested interest in things remaining the status quo. A lot of influential people get a lot of mileage from the status quo as it is now. It has absolutely nothing to do with the national interest.

I would like to see America run for the benefit of the American people instead of for the politicians and the corporations. It sounds simple, but it really isn't. Obama isn't the answer. He's as much of the problem as the Clintons, McCain, or Bush are. It's not about the country or the people. It's all about the party to these guys. I never bought into that bullshit. That is the main reason I'm not registered with a party affiliation.

What the country should be goes far beyond immigration. It would be great if the national government held referendums, but it is not in our constitution. Some of the cities, counties, and states in America allow it; but it is not allowed on the federal level. The national politicians love their power and the fact that we have to go through them to be heard or to get things done. Unfortunately in modern America money talks and bullshit walks. "Nuff said.

BTW...no matter how many immigrants the USA takes in it will not alter the brick wall the third world inevitably will crash into. I never did buy into the "misery loves company" scenario for America. Just as we prioritize our spouses, children, and immediate family...we should focus on our own immediate people. The world is no more global than it was 100 years ago. Mass media just lets us see more of it. We cannot save the world at our own expense. Nature trumps the folly of man. It trumps grandious proclamations too. Talk is cheap.

As far as immigration goes...there will always be immigration to America from various sources. I just don't believe mass marketed, mass immigration is necessary or desirable in a modern industrialized welfare state like America is. Immigration today is not even close to being the same as the immigration at the beginning of the 20th century. And I don't think marrying a foreigner is being a hypocrite. Marrying someone and bringing them to your home is eons away from mass immigration. It's not even close to the same thing.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

More people to support SSI.

More people to eat into SSI and more people to eat up social welfare programs.

As I said...immigration of my grandparents is totally different from immigration today. They never took a penny from Uncle Sugar. There was no welfare for the wave of immigrants at the beginning of the 20th century. They didn't come here for the welfare or to send loot back home in remittances. Now, not only do large numbers of legal immigrants eat into social welfare programs, but illegal aliens do too. In effect, we import poverty that the US taxpayer subsidizes for the benefit of corporations and their minions in government that feed off of this stupidness. All the while these same immigrants (legal and illegal) send a big chunk their loot back home instead of keeping it circulating in our own economy.

How anyone can compare what is going on today to the original intent of US immigration policy in the past is beyond my comprehension. It's mostly the ignorant that do not know their American history and do not want to open their eyes to what is actually happening today. In effect, they have created some sort of romanticized fantasy history that they use to justify the stupidity of today's immigration policy.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."
