Should all renters, including the US born, be required to obtain occupancy license in order to rent?

I have a plan!

If you want to employ illegals cool but your business has to pay 50x more taxes than you normally would. Also, you must take 75% of the illegal's pay towards taxes as well.

Smart idea.. I am sure the ACLU will find something to dispute it and effectively reward criminal behavior
Actually, I think they'll SUPPORT it, as it involves MORE bureaucracy.

Is it fair to ask USC renters to pay $5 for a license each time they move, to address a problem created by a coalition of big business and big government which was all too willing to "look the other way"?

why not? you already have to pay to transfer your utilities $5 more won't hurt you.

It won't hurt me but I am sure there are those who can't afford it. I don't know anyone like that, but then again I don't really know any really poor people either. Yet, I am assured they exist and I believe it.

$5? cmon now

Are you saying even the poorest American has $5 to spare?

I honestly don't know if that's the case. Like I said, I don't know people that poor.

But again, just speaking to the principle - why should poor USC's bear the cost of resolving a problem they did not create?

i've asked you that question before in regards to illegal immigration.

This is how you solve problems. Everyone seems to have this attitude in America hence why nothing is ever done.

  • Why should I fix up a ghetto since I never lived there.
  • Why should I care about the effect illegal immigration has on poor American since I am in a cozy white collar job
  • etc etc

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I am not session persistent.

I think its high time that all USCs got some sort of identity barcode tattoo that could be read by the cops, or some sort of machine that verifies people's identity by DNA. We could all pay $200 apiece for the privilege.

Sounds like the future world in Demolition Man.

What is it actually going to do? There are already landlords who don't play by the rules. Without solid enforcement, they will still keep renting to people with or without a licence.

Are there going to be checks on people rooming with other people?

I agree. If the lease is in one name only, who is to say you couldn't have a couple of illegals living with you?

This seems like a knee-jerk proposal to me. Makes it look like they are really trying to tackle the problem... pfft

Yep - with the 3 Seashells. And you get arrested if your bank account goes overdrawn.

This is just retarded.

I wonder how such a thing would affect people who have immigrated legally through a K visa but not adjusted status yet? I mean, my landlord doesn't understand that my leaking faucet needs to be fixed how could she be expected to understand the nuances of immigration law.

Considering how many problems people have with driver's licences and social security cards, I don't think we need to be giving state and municipal employees any more power to mess with people's lives because trust me, it won't just be the illegals that are affected.

Liberals and their big government ideas.

The Dems are doing nothing about this as well. After being here for nearly 4 years it is quite obvious that the JFK, Eisenhower, Roosevelt, Washington, Lincoln style of politicians are gone from America. The type who actually cared about America more than winning votes. The majority are now full of #### and only interested in pushing their own agenda and being re-elected.
