Exactly, new technologies new problems..and life goes on..each generation will say theirs was the best of the times

My parents always talked about how hard it was when they were children.. 20's 30's and 40's during the depression and children of sharecroppers. They picked cotton and hunted for their food. They think the times of their children were the best times during the 50's, 60's, and 70's. I would even say the early 80's weren't too bad being the youngest of 6. Now what chance does a kid have without a college degree?

using data from the most recent (2005) America Housing Survey (AHS). Among the key findings is that first-time buyers were, on average, about 33 years old, had a household income of almost $64,100, bought a house with a median price of $150,000 and accounted for 43 percent of homes sold.

With the problems the US is currently facing and will face in the future do we really think our children will be better off than us?

Or you could get a degree that you thought would help you in the "real world," but in a field that is reducing their workforce...

I look fondly on some of my growing up years (70's and 80's), but I can definitely see that time period had more than a few flaws, just as I can see some positive things from the present.

However, speaking as a high school teacher, I wish that parents would let their children have some taste of responsibility before they are thrust into a situation for which they are not prepared...the real world...

Boy, can I ever relate!!! That's EXACTLY how I grew up in the 50's.

What I want to know is.... What's up with every parent driving their kids to school and picking them up? Whatever happened to kids walking to and from school, not only for exercise, but to learn a little responsibility and independence??????

I agree on this and what about riding the bus! My parents never picked me up or took me to school. I had 5 older siblings and they never took me to school or picked me up either when they could drive.

My kid's school is within walking distance. But I will not allow my child to walk past a registered sex offender's house. At least I know there is one that lives about 15 houses away, so that is why I drive my child to school. A lot of these offenders are not registered and you cannot take that chance, that may be your neighbourhood is safe. Back in the day we did not have crime like it is now. I live in the DFW metroplex and just watching the news everyday and listening to the Amber Alerts......

I agree we had worse economic situations in the 70's then today but less worries it seemed.

When I was a child both my parents worked for GM and we had a farm. It was our (the kids) responsability to take care of the farm and do the work. My parents helped but the majority of the work was done by us. I never got an allowance, I was given a calf when I was 8 and from raising, selling, buying more, and so on by the time I was 16 I had enough for a car, spending money, etc. I was the youngest and when I was 16 they sold it all and retired from both GM and farming.
