I miss home

I have been washing some clothes by hands today and it reminded me of home - where laundry means a basinful of "bula", a pang- kuskus on one hand and a friend or a sister to share a story with on the other hand. I will be looking for Perla or blue wheel later in the nearby filipino store ( ihope they have some).

In the mean time, i want to share some youtube videos that made me miss home all the more.

thanks to you tube, i can now have access to pinoy tv ads :( sayang wala kami tfc :(

I found a web site that forecasts the local channel in my town. Thanks god for today's technology.

I watch the news there and I enjoy the local comercials more than any show.

We split our hearts in 2, we just have to get used to it.

does PJB stands for peanut butter jelly bellies :) I understand how u feel. I feel like an alien sometimes too. My hubby takes me to asian market on sundays, we eat asian food and he makes me meet filipina friends to at least make me feel at home. There are times though that my brain just "lock" it self and dont understand english and just crave to speak in my native dialect...Hubby is doing his best to learn my dialect too.

It is really true that no matter how humble our home maybe - there is really no place like home :) Shaun told me that is home is where i am at. Well, he is my home too, but my country philippines is my home - home. :)

oh, I miss home as well. I get homesick a LOT. Last year, it was so bad that 6 months in, my hubby actually let me go on vacation in Manila. FOR TWO MONTHS! Heh. We missed each other terribly, but it was very difficult for me to be away from my family (we're very tight-knit, even compared to other Filipino families) and my husband is very, VERY understanding. He knew what I was giving up in coming here, even more than I did, and I guess he was prepared for the homesickness.

This coming August, I'll probably be going to Chicago for a relative's wedding, and I'm betting I'm going to be very homesick then as well, what with all the relatives around, but only a couple or so people who are close to the nuclear family. But then, knowing is half the battle, and I'll be prepared :)

I'm so envious that you have Filipino stores, though! There's none in my area, and that just makes it all the more difficult to make Filipino food..

Look around a little bit more. Usually, even if the store says "Chinese" or "Thailand", they have Filipino items, or at least something that you can use to prepare your dishes.

I see, you're from Kent, OH. There's an Asian food market in Cuyahoga Falls:

2603 State Rd

Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223

(330) 928-1969

I found that by typing in "kent, ohio asian market" in Yahoo!

The other option is to try something like "kent, ohio chinese market", "kent, ohio filipino market", etc.

Considering you live where Kent State University is located, there have got to be more locations for Asian markets. You could always ask people at the Asian restaurants too.

I have been there, and I saw some things like lechon sauce and sardines in tomato sauce, but not much else in terms of Filipino ingredients. They do have a lot of Japanese food, though, which is a comfort in itself (not a lot of Japanese restos here, unlike in Manila where there's Tokyo Tokyo, Teriyaki Boy and all that). I plan on going back one of these days in the hopes of finding tocino, but if they don't have any, I'll have to get some (or a LOT) from Chicago when I visit relatives :P
