Hi all. Hope everything is going well with everybody. I have a little confusion about my case. I sent my AOS application on June 4th and no NOA1 or nothing received,,yet. As I was looking at other June filers time lines, everybody seems to have more smooth proceedings compare to mine. I made a cashier's check through a bank so it is hard for me to whether it's been cashed or not. I called the USCIS number but they told me I have to wait 30 days for the NOA1. I am just afraid that they might tell me wait for another 90 days for the damn thing again. That would disastrous since I have to work and pay my college tuition for the fall quarter or I will be out of status i guess, since I am a still F-1 student untill they make a decision on my case, right? Little frustrated right now....and still waiting. BTW is there anyone who got student loan after adjusting their status? if so please let me know.. I am in desperate help. Also any ideas on what to do about my case? if so, responses will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

I don't know about most of your questions, but I can tell you a couple things about student loans. You're eligible for federal student loans if you are a permanent resident or US citizen and can demonstrate financial need (which isn't too difficult). Alternatively, banks offer private loans to international students if you have a US co-signer. The terms are generally pretty good, and you can defer payment until your education is completed. Sallymae, wells fargo, etc are just a few places I've seen private loans offered.

If you don't have a US co-signer and aren't a PR, then the only option you have for student loans is to get a co-signer in your home country and apply through your home country banks. The only website I found that offers this is Global Student Loan Corporation, but they are limited in the countries that they work with.

I wish you more luck than I've had. My fiancé and I weren't able to secure the necessary loan we needed for his student visa.

So far that's the only thing you can do, wait. After the 90 days have gone by, you can go ahead and schedule an infopass appointment. Be patient since not all cases are assigned to the same officer, pretty much some are slow and some have a bad backlog and some others are fast processing their cases. It has been 20 days since you sent it, hence about 16 days since they received it.

Sadly you bought a cashiers check, at least some people have the reassurance of tracking their check and seeing it being cashed.

Good luck!
