Hello,

In preparation for a (hopefully) speedy NVC process, we have spent the day investigating all we will need.:star:

Daher spent the years from age 16-18 living with his parents in the United Arab Emirates. He then moved to Jordan, and has lived there for the past 8 years (he is of Jordanian nationality) Based on everything we've read on the USCIS/NVC web sites, he will need to obtain a police record from the UAE. However, when we look at the reciprocity site, it states the below.

Specifically look at the red bold part.

Police Records

Available, only if applicant is physically present in the UAE.

Police certificates may be obtained by any person, regardless of nationality, by personally appearing at the Central Police Headquarters located in the emirate of residence or former residence. When appearing to request a police certificate, the applicant should provide recent photographs, a letter from the requesting authority, the date of residence in the emirate, and their passport.

Not available by mail. Post recommends that consular officers waive the general requirement to obtain police certificates unless the applicant lives in the UAE.

Does this mean he will not need to travel to the UAE to obtain the certificate? Who is "Post" and does their recommendation always get accepted by the US Embassy?

Any help is, as always, appreciated!!

Diane why don't you call NVC and find this out from them. If nothing helps then ask Daher to call the US embassy/consulate and find out what they do for police certificates from the UAE. Its kind of complex. I hope someone else can give you a better and more helpful answer. From the information it seems either the person should be there to request it in person or that the embassy/NVC send a request letter directly to UAE, in which case the police authority sends the character certificate directly to the Embassy/NVC....which is of course a little complicated. I have read similar information about some other countries too. I hope someone else here can answer this question too.

dealing with NVC you need to obtain a police certificate from UAE. You do not have to Travel! you can somehow send them email/letter with a copy of his/her passport and maybe a copy of the UAE visa in the passport as well. Or if you know someone there to help with abotaining the certificate that would be easier. goodluck
