Okay so me (canadian) and my fiancee (american) are preparing to file our K-1 soon we have everything together and just have one question about the interview stage before we file.

On my last trip out to Chicago we planned to spend half the vacation there and the other half here in Canada. So we drove to the border and he was denied entry due to a previous DUI from a few years ago. At that time he was told he cannot enter Canada and if he tried to enter without a waiver from the Canadian Consulate he will be arrested. We were told the process to get that waiver takes a very long time and there is no guarantee he will be approved that is why we are doing the K1 now cause we had originally planned for him to move to Canada.

So my question is for the interview he cannot come because he is not allowed into Canada ... is this going to be an issue or is it okay if he is unable to attend.

Its a non-issue - the petitioner is not required to attend. Also Canada not being a fraud country - there shouldn't be any problems with his not being there. Many of us didn't attend the interviews because of time and cost constraints. Good Luck

motu is right, he doesn't have to attend the interview with you. You'll be fine.

Good luck on your journey!!! We just sent in our K1 last Monday!

Another question ... I see many people having interviews in Montreal and Ottawa ... there is a US Embassy/Consulate in Toronto and when on their website it shows they do Visa appointments and such ... do they do the K1 visa interviews there or just in Montreal and Ottawa??? I am so much closer to Toronto like 30 min

Toronto doesn't do K1 unfortunately, and neither does Ottawa. Only Montreal and Vancouver do them. If you live in Ontario, your interview will be in Montreal.

There's a Canada forum here as well, and there are many Canadian specific posts you might find helpful!
