Timeline

Hubby is curious --- Item 5 on I-134 states I am willing to depost a bond to guarantee etc.

Anyone have any idea how much that bond might be?

There is nothing to fill out for item 5. It just asks you to say your are willing to post a bond but not any amount

Up to the consular officer who reviews the sponsor's financial condition and decides that a bond should be required. My sense is that it happens only rarely.
