Interesting. I went to our local SSN office to advise them that I had married and to see if I needed to advise them of my change in status. I had an unrestricted SSN card, and when I asked the guard what category to select (they had an automatic computerized type of sign in) because there didn't seem to be one that fit my situation, he said I was fine and didn't need to do anything more. So, as far as SSN knows, my status is unchanged since I got my SSN on my K-1. This is the first I have heard that I do need to do something more to advise them of my change in status. As I said, interesting. How have others gone about notifying them if you didn't have a change or name and had an unrestricted card?

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Right now nothing has changed, but if DHS tells SSA that what caused the policy change to allow K-1s to be assigned an SSN without an EAD card no longer applies, K-1s will be back to needing an EAD card or work authorization stamp to be assigned a work authorized SSN. The one thing the report doesn't address is what is a K-1s status after getting married and before the 90 days are up, even if the current policy continues. Would have been nice if that would be cleared up once and for all.

Stay tuned, it might come to be that the work authorization stamp from JFK is worth something.
