Yes, I believe that is correct!

Thanks for your quick reply.

Do you know how to get it? If that's the case, I am running out of time before my interview!!!

you get it from the police where you lived.

I know a couple CR-1 living in China right now, they met while students in Japan. They are having a hell of a time getting any police report from Japan. At first, they were told they would have to come in person to get it but he could not get a visa to return to Japan........

No, I believe you don't need to obtain a police clearance/certificate from the US. You just have to get the ones where you have lived for more than 6 months other than the US, since the age of 16.

Good luck :)

The petitioner does not need a police certificate

The beneficiary does

OTHER COUNTRY POLICE CERTIFICATES. Applicants aged 16 years and older must also present police certificates from other countries where they have lived for six (6) months or more after reaching the age of 16. As with NBI clearances, foreign police certificates should be obtained

in any maiden names, aliases or nicknames ever used while in the country in question, including different spellings you have used of those names.

Yes, I was referring to the beneficiary. This question has been brought up numerous times and I guess the DOS explains it better.
