Bringing my furniture/goods to the USA...

Hi All,

I know there have been many postings on this topic, and alot of people have had no trouble crossing with their U-haul full of furniture and stuff... I was doing a bit of research on the matter and came across this point:

"All shipments of household goods and personal effects entering the United States, whether the effects of a Returning U.S. Resident or Non-Residents entering the United States, must be entered utilizing Treasury Department Form No. 3299 (Declaration for Free Entry of Articles Not Accompanying a Resident or Non-Resident.) In addition, a supplemental declaration providing additional information relative to the owner of the property is also required."

Did anyone actually fill out this form or was a list of all your belongings (and value) sufficient?

form 3299 is for UNACCOMPANIED goods. http://forms.cbp.gov/pdf/CBP_Form_3299.pdf I belive if you had a moving company moving for ya or friends at a later date, you would use that form

So if your bring all the stuff with u in the uhaul, its not required. If ya just make a list of what ya have,you should be fine. I utilized MS word,made a table, and made various headings and away I went. Nothing fancy. The Customs dude barely even looked at it, and didnt even look at my u haul truck!!

I had headings such as "Item" "Serial # if applicable" "date purchased" "approx value" I just guestimated everything and I didn't itemize every single item, would group things together, and i treied to label the boxes (kitchen stuff, books, etc) I didnt get carried away
