Well they can't change the royal coat of arms just for the coins and I think you'll find the reason it is not on the royal coat of arms is because Wales is a principality therefor has a different coat of arms.

Indeed, which is why I'm surprised this design was chosen. Normally, coins have local customisations for everyone, even us ruffians in the principality.

As an American, one of the things I liked best about UK currency was the way the 1 pound coin had different designs for each of the countries. I do think it's a shame for that to be 'gone'.

From what I've read they are not taking the old coins out of circulation - they'll be staying. The news coins will just be added into the current circulation. But I do agree that I liked the old pound coins and the different things on them. Thistle, Leek and so on.

Love the look of the new coins.

Am I the only saddo who just can't handle US money? I've been living here 4 years, regularly visiting for over 15, and I still can't get a grip with the cash. Whenever I am in a shop I always use large notes cos I can't stand to count out all those one dollar bills, or even worse work out the difference with those tiny little coins. My mother is a maths teacher, I did pretty well at school with maths, but come to counting US money in front of a stranger and I freeze!

Met the ole man in January 1998

Jan. 2004: K1 visa issued ~ April 2004: Got on a plane ~ Nov. 2004: GC in my mucky hands ~ Dec. 2006: Received 10 YR GC

September 2008 - US passport delivered!

I found the US coinage hard to get used to. I couldn't get my head around Dimes and Nickels. Then I started working with money and it all came together - although I'm often found counting 5 quarters as equivalent to a dollar, rather than 4. For some reason I think they are the same as 20 pence pieces!

What I dislike are the dollar bills - they take up so much space for something worth so little. :D
