I'd rather be well aware that it wont be over until I passed the CBP that being too cool thinking the K-1 is my guarantee and that any type of answer given at the POE wont affect my entry to the U.S. But that is just me!

*nods* some people seem to have very unpleasant experiences even when they are finally let through at POE. I am pleased (although nervous) to know in advance that a ) it is important to realise that making jokes is a bad idea, b ) referring to your fiance / fiancee as your husband / wife is a REALLY BAD IDEA, c ) they have the right to ask you as many questions as they like and make you wait while they inspect every single bit of the paperwork... and some of these questions may seem intrusive and insensitive.

Much better to be mentally prepared for the worst and then 99% of people will be pleasantly surprised by their positive experiences.

yes yes, I guess in my case it would be during the K1. My fiance wants to come visit the U.S. for our daughter's birthday, but we don't want to risk it if he has a high chance of being denied. His ties to U.K. aren't too strong right now. His only tie would be his job & his new flat will be a month-to-month lease. :-S. It would be okay, if we knew he would be reimbursed for the whole ticket if he did get denied.

Here is a link to a POE review I wrote while my K-1 was pending - I entered through DUB

Hope this helps - I didn't have many ties either as I had made it so I didn't (obviously as I was intending to move I didn't want any contracts etc).

Lots of people visit from the UK while their K1 is pending. We did it and my husband actually had fewer questions going through saying he was visiting his fiance than when he was just "on vacation". Can you be turned away? Of course. Will it be likely to happen? Probably not. However, bring lots of evidence that you are returning home, copy of whatever paperwork you have to show you are doing things the "right way", have a return ticket, don't stay for extended periods of time, dont answer what they dont ask and dont pack everything you own.

Regarding the POE when you are entering on the K1, of course you can be turned away. However they are not going to deny entrance unless they have a very good reason. So like everything with the process, don't lie, don't answer anything they don't ask, pay attention and don't be stupid. I like what someone else said, be prepared for extensive, tricky questioning and most likely you'll be happily surprised.

That is very scarey that you could leave your home be denied on a k1 and have no home to go back to.

Yes, you can be denied entry on any visa.

Liam was denied entry because of consulate error. He had some charges on his police report that the UK consulate did not think required a waiver. When the CBP officer opened his brown envelope at Dublin POE, the officer looked at the report and was expecting to see a waiver in the envelope. There was none. He turned Liam around. After contacting the consulate, Liam was informed the consulate indeed should have denied his visa initially and he should have filed for a waiver. The waiver was filed, granted and Liam eventually entered the US.

The member Goldenheart's fiance was also turned around in Detroit due to statements made at POE which led the officers to believe he was already married and therefore not admissible under a K1 visa.

You're welcome.

As you can see, it can happen. But it is rare.

The following more recent thread is also helpful as it illustrates what can happen at any entry, even a successful one:
