Never had any problems setting up a wireless network with XP. Vista took me forever, and then it wouldn't work right. I had to get a tech to get it to finally work correctly.

Office 2007 is another story in failure. That suite is a complete joke.

vista is still too new for some company that they wouldnt use it as their official operating system if thats the word (at least not in the company i work from, and in our store too)... plus ive heard bad reviews from it (probably coz its still "new")... although i just got a mac and now using the mac os-x that has also a window xp on it (parallel window) so im happy about my new mac that if i need to use a window/ei, its just easy for me to switch. but my husband thought about buying a vista but i told him to wait till its wildly use... lol

And for the less technichaly proficient, the networking in Windows XP, we all know was in the control panel under networking. In Vista, its in the control panel under networking.

The interface is only one of the problems. Yes, everything has been gratuitously and illogically moved around. There was no real philosophy put into the interface, they just wanted to make it look pretty. Sit down and use a Mac sometime and you will see exactly what I'm talking about. OS X (the Mac OS) was carefuly designed from the ground up to be intuitive. Vista wasn't so much designed as ordained by committee.

But the biggest problem with Vista is that it's simply a resource hog. Walk away from your computer sometime with no applications running. Come back in an hour and listen to your disk drive churning. And I don't mean a little click here and there. I mean heavy duty IO. What is it doing? I don't know. I have dual-core pentiums, 8GB memory, and a 500GB hard drive. My Vista machine is anything but resource starved. And yet it thrashes away continuously. (no, it's not antivirus or anything else. I shut all that down looking for what the issue might be, and it's a brand new installation, no shareware, etc.)

There's something wrong with an operating system that requires a minimum of 2GB memory just to run the OS. Especially when you consider that it's only job in life is to run your spreadsheets and games and browser.

I haven't used Vista myself, so I can't say much on how it operates, however, I do think we need to remember one very important thing about Microsoft operating systems: They never work well at the beginning!

Look at Windows XP. Sure, lots of people love it now, but it was released in 2001. This October, XP will be seven years old and with two service packs, it's turned into a decent OS. When it first came out, it had tons of problems. I know; I was one of the early adopters of it.

By contrast, Vista is a little over a year old now. It's had one service pack, but it's also a much more complex design. Whether or not that's a good thing is subjective, but the fact remains that there's more to it than previous Windows versions.

Eventually, I believe Vista will become an OS at least as good as XP is today. Of course, by the time that happens, Microsoft will roll out a brand new OS and shelf Vista. They seem to have a habit of doing that, which is really too bad. I tend to think PC users like having an operating system that is (usually) stable and compatible with most pieces of hardware and software.
