Don't leave anything blank. If unknown, simply write "unknown". I'd all you can to find the information first though. A copy of the marriage certificate would show her maiden name. Is that available?

Hey Liz,

Is there a third party you/he could contact, that might remember? Family members, town members, maybe even church records (here they write it in books that are kept separately from the civil registrars documents, so if he had a religious marriage, they might know)?

Here, also, if you apply for a certificate showing all the places where you lived, you would get the name of the spouse or former spouse at the time on there, but maybe that isn't available either.

Or if you really want to be sure, maybe you'd even be able to access the court file of that divorce, if their archives are accessible (then they would be for your husband since he was one of the parties in the case).

And maybe this isn't the most important of questions anyway (the most important proof is the proof that he got divorced, so that you can legally marry) and writing unknown isn't that bad.

Lots of luck in figuring this out.

Hey Catt,

Thank you so much. Yes youre right..why not put unknown. The first woman he married used my husband to get a green card. My husband wasnt even sure if its her real name. He was too young then. Its a past that brought back bad memories. Anyways I appreciate your response.
