John McCain- Best we can hope for is to let the market correct itself as quickly as possible. When you interfere with corrections it only exacerbates and prolongs the suffering of all. Just look at the Great Depression and Roosevelt's "New Deal" policies that stretched it out for close to a decade.

I will say that there seems to be an alarming number of people (including my current landlord) who claim to have been mis-sold their mortgages by salesmen who misrepresented the product they were selling.

This is a fact. About 2 years ago I literally came within a hair of signing on to a subprime loan that had horrific hidden consequences after the honeymoon period. The loan officer flat out LIED. I have the exchange saved in E-Mails and sent it to the BBB who did nothing about it. The only reason I didn't go for it is because my original loan officer finally recovered from the flu and pointed out the flaws and directed me to ask the other guy the right questions.

After that I can easily see how people could be misled. Even reading the contract through twice it wasn't clear what was going to happen me. Rat Bastards.

It appears that we now have a culture of "victims" in this country that aren't willing to take personal responsibility for anything.

I know, just because they push does not mean you have to buy it. The last time I refinanced was last year. She tried to get me into an ARM instead of the 30 year note that I requested. I said "No thanks" I'll take the 30-year fixed. She said "OK", and that was that. People need to know what they are doing before they sign. This is where personal responsibility comes in to action. The welfare "nanny state" destroys people's sense of personal responsibility.

Listen people, if it sounds to good to be true, it is not true! Common sense should tell you that the mortgage company cannot afford to lend you money for only a couple of interest points. There must be a payoff or a catch. And no matter what we cannot save these people or bail them out without destroying the mortgage industry and or the economy at the same time.

Even still at this moment interest rates are still at a low rate when compared to history.

Next time I go out the door I'll look for these 'victims' who fecklessly spend money they don't have while they do damn all to help themselves. I hear about them so often, you'd think they would be easy to find but damnit all I ever see are people working really hard to earn an income to meet their needs and obligations.

How many of these nanny state layabouts do you know personally Kaydee, Don Joy? Also, if it's the nanny state that creates these people who lack the ability to take responsibility for themselves (which is a nice sounding phrase but from my person experience is essentially meaningless) how did you or I or anyone else escape falling foul of the nanny state malaise? (of course you'll have to take my word for it that I do take responsibility not only for myself but for my family as well)
