Anyone ever opened the MBE? (and re-sealed it?)

Soooooo..I'm tempted I gotta admit. I wanna see whats in it - KNOWING isn't enough - oh no..I wanna see and make a copy in case it gets lost! (especially the vaccination sheet)

So..has anyone done this?

Or maybe you've 'had a friend' who has?

Is it fastened in a weird way? Or just a self-stick envelope?

A curious world wants to know!

There has been a Londoner or two who accidentally opened the packet - great mental anguish and panic ensued and they ended up making a trip back to London to have it re-sealed........they were so distraught over the error that I don't recall any information about what it looks like.....I can tell you it's got DO NOT OPEN stamped all over it....

I think you should shower with it, sleep with it, and otherwise guard it with your life rather than satisfy your curiosity....

I wonder why it says "DO NOT OPEN" on it....... maybe they dont want you to open it??????

CBP at POE may think you have tampered with the contents.... then may decided you are homesick and send you back home to start all over again....

I watched as the CBP opened ours. Nothing thrilling in there from what I could see, just a bunch of copies of paperwork and a printout with my photo. Stuff like that. Nothing looked too exciting.

Just watch as they open it. Or, better yet, if the CBP is friendly and chatty like ours was, ask him/her. Just say "Just out of curiosity, what's in those things? Secret documents?"

Some CBPs are very very serious and dour, but others are awesome. Ours was joking with us (and the other CBPs around him) and they were chatting about their weekends, and something they'd watched on TV the night before. Then again, we were crossing via the Quebec/Vermont border and I doubt seriously that that is a high traffic/high stress POE.

I wouldn't open it though. I'd be too afraid that I'd have to start over or pay a fine or something.

WHY DONT YOU OPEN IT, COPY EVERYTHING OVER NIGHT & UPLOAD IT HERE ON VJ FOR EVERYBODY TO KNOW, THEN U COULD GO BACK TO LONDON & HAVE IT SEALED AGAIN

well..yes but I had no idea it had 'do not open' all over the darn thing

I thought it was just a 'plain brown envelope' - I know one VJer had theirs and it wasnt sealed so they had a peek into it.

I dont want the POE thinking I messed with the contents tho - that couldn't be good

Your A-file is in the brown envelope. It's basically everything that you gave them either with the petition or at the Consulate.

The one we got from the consulate in Ciudad Juarez had a corner cut out. You could flip through the pages and see what was in there. It was just all the papers we had given them. All of our hardship letters for our waiver and whatever else we had sent them. Nothing too exciting. All stuff you have seen before. Sorry to disappoint you.

I saw what was in mine at POE and yep it's pretty dull. Nowt you haven't seen before apart from your medical report. At POE my primary officer was such a misery ####### she started asking me questions about why I was there and then asking me several dates about meetings, DOBs etc as she shuffled through the envelope. I got my OH's DOB completely wrong...what else do they expect after an 8 hour flight quaffing champagne up front?

Not worth the risk. I remember reading about someone's being ripped a bit and peeking in.

edit... my fiancee was scared to un-staple her passport from the outside of the MBE. Passport control in Bangkok removed it.
