I've taken my laptop as carry-on baggage to and from Turkey several times without a problem. All they have you do is take it out and place it in a bin when going through the security check-points. Sometimes they'll ask you to power it on.

If it is to be brought as carry on you will want to be sure that the battery is fully charged as they may ask you to start it up as proof it is what it is, a laptop. I doubt very much they would ask for proof of ownership.

I have travelled to the USA approximately 6 times with my laptop - it is absolutely no problem at all. Sometimes you need to take it out of the case, sometimes not. I have never been asked to power it on, but I guess it could happen.

Traveling with a notebook computer is no problem. The worse they ask you to do is turn on it to see if it's really a computer!
