Hello everyone! Last time I was here, I was not engaged and not yet a soon-to-be-bride----but now I am so YAY! Here comes the paperwork involved in

AOS!

Background about me:

I've been living in the US since Jan 06 as a graduate student and I am now on my OPT (ending Sept 08)

I have my own SSN card with my maiden name although on it it says something like "Employment only with DHS Authorization only"

I have my EAD/card and will have to reapply for another since my current ends in Sept 08

I am currently in/came to the US with an F1 Student visa

My questions are:

Would it be alright to file for AOS and other documents using my maiden name? I kinda want to keep it.

Will I have to get a new SSN after I get married?

Since I am on OPT and came to the US on F1, my i-94 doesn't have any stamped "expiration" date. So does this mean this "date" is my OPT end date?

Since I already have OPT/EAD card, when I reapply for a new one, is it considered a "renewal" based on the fact that I am doing AOS and this is just getting an extentsion...

THANKS SO MUCH

It is okay to file under your maiden name. I did the exact same thing.

You will keep the same SSN. It is yours for life.

As an F-1 student, your I-94 expiration is D/S (duration of status). Meaning that it doesn't expire as long as you oblige to your F-1 requirements. It should show D/S on your I-94.

As you are applying for an EAD under a different category, you are applying for an original not a renewal. At least, this is what i did and understood. :)

AOS Approved on 10-17-08 (details in profile)

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

In this tedious process, we tend to forget that this is all worth it.

I love my hubby beyond anything in this world.

Thank you so much for answering my questions :) I just looked at i-94 and saw my D/S (I never knew what it meant before). :)
