Moving to Dalian

Hi all,

My husband will be applying for a student X visa for China. Will he be allowed to take dependents with him? It will just be myself and our small son. I won't need a visa to work or study, just one that allows me to stay in China for about 11 months.

Also, as a perm resident how will this affect my status here in the US. I understand if I am gone for more than a year then I require a reentry permit. On the USCIS web site it states that they could decide that I abandoned my status upon arrival back even if I was gone for less than a year. Has this happened to anyone?

And, does anyone know a good real estate agent in Dalian who speaks english? We will need a 2 bedroom apartment down town.

We will be going to the Chinese Consulate this week to get some answers but any info you can give before then would be helpful!!!

THANKS!

11-05-06 Sent I-130 to California

06-01-07 INTERVIEW

06-04-07 Received VISA in the mail. Silly Consulate issued me CR-1 instead of IR-1, no time to change it in Australia, will try to change it once in California.

06-10-07 POE SFO

06-21-07 Receive SSN#

07-12-07 Receive Green Card in the mail STILL HAD CR1 INSTEAD OF IR1

12-10-07 Finally sent I-90 asking for a new green card with correct info.

06-17-08 INFOPASS - Was told USCIS sent new green card to old address back in Jan. Will resend it but may not be able to correct error as it was made by Consulate not USCIS.

What to do now??

he wont allow to take dependents.

if you want to go with him you have to applied for visitor visa

which is about 3-6 month limit when it expire renew it in china

or go out of a country IE Thailand and get a new visitor visa

if you are on a green card, you might lose your stats or will get in trouble when you come back

I remember when i first visit china on a reentry permit they are not allow me to enter china (luckily i got my driver license in my wallet).

and come back to the state will be a problem also they might or might not denied your entry.

from my personal knowledge if you on green card and married to us citizen you can naturalized in 3 years

but you have to stay in the us for those period with out going abroad.

i think you can go with your husband to china but you might not stay long over there because you are on green card not passport.

and about the apartment it really easy to get when you in china.

i hope it help

This is a question for the nearest Chinese Consulate or a visa service that deals with them. It's the reverse of what we do here. However, If you do end up with a short term multiple entry visa for China and eventually need to leave and return, So. Korea or Japan would be far more convenient than Thailand from Dalian. The local public safety bureau can extend the visa but probably not for the full 11 months. They may have an appropriate visa for you but a visa service will know. I've not seen one.

Thanks for the advice guys!

The Consulate told me that I could only go as a tourist for 30 days. So we now have lots to think about.

You can expect to be able to extend your allowed stay for another 30 or 60 days at the local public safety bureau in Dalian.
