NCSC 800 number is worthless

I called USCIS yesterday and asked if they could tell us whether the category code on my wife's green card was correct or not. We don't want to file an I-90 unless we know for sure there is an error on the card. The 800 number's response was that we have to make an Infopass appointment to find that out. What a bunch of #######. They have immigration officers who they could transfer me to who I'm sure could answer the question.

07/17/2009 Interview Denver USCIS office RECOMMENDED FOR APPROVAL

08/28/2009 Naturalization Ceremony - US District Court - Denver, Colorado[/b][/u]

09/04/2009 Applied for passport

09/22/2009 Passport approved and mailed

09/24/2009 Passport received

08/26/2009 Naturalization Certificate and Name Change Petition arrive back from State Department

I'm not sure they do. The "customer service center" is only a private contractor equipped with not much more than scripts and the same information you can get from your online case status screen.

It used to be that if you had an issue the frontline contractors couldn't handle, they would transfer you to an immigration information officer who had access to your case and could answer more specific questions. Has this changed recently?
