Hey guys,

I know this is up in the I-129 example but I'm still confused about it. It's the "My citizenship was acquired through..." question.

So, I was born here, parents born here, etc., so presumably I check "birth in the U.S." But then do I put my birth certificate number somewhere? The example says to only put your 'naturalization certificate' number in the blank immediately beneath this, which isn't the same thing is it?

And then under all that it says "Have you obtained a certificate of citizenship in your name?" and has a blank for a number there. Is my birth certificate considered this?

Do they want/need my birth certificate number at all or do I leave it all blank? I'm already sending them copies of it, too.

Thanks guys.

Thanks guys.

You were born in the US, and you can use a copy of your birth certificate as proof of that. If for some reason your birth certificate is unavailable, a copy of your passport is fine as well.

Certificate of Naturalization is used by naturalized citizens, and certificate of citizenship may be used by citizens that were born outside of the US.

That's why I just downloaded the form to my flash drive. I'm the type of person that tends to make lots of mistakes and it's great that the forms are editable in Adobe. So I just open it up and type everything in. That way, if there's a mistake, I can just backspace. :-P

I know how particular they get with passport forms (no going over lines or out of boxes, no scribbles, etc.) So rather than take the risk of turning in something that's been scribbled and whited out and have it denied, I just do it on the computer. :-P

ARGH, see...mine's all done now and I'm not going back through it. But yeh that's what drove me nuts about the forms. I thought surely they'd be editable, but I guess whatever my default program is (not a computer person) is lame and doesn't let me. I'd save a form, and when I went back to reopen it it wouldn't let me edit it at all.

Also really annoyed with some of the auto features on the forms...like there were places where I had to put in a year, and it'd be 2005 or something, which I guess is slightly wider than 1991 or something like that...I don't know what it was, but it seemed like they hadn't left enough space for you to type in a post-2000 date. So I'd backspace and click outside the box, and then what happens - permanent 0000 pops up and can't be gotten rid of. I just ended up half-typing my forms, half writing in the rest...12 times...over 3 copies of Biographs, etc...

I'm a noob.
