hmm...I had to ask my filipina what an FX was

well, FX is like a taxi and and jeepney in one, but here they use a car like like those of big types of taxis (some with ac others are not).. it's like jeepney bcuz they have a particular route and can contain many passengers with different destinations.

If I'm in Laguna then it will be Jeepney and tricycle, but in Manila it will either be FX taxi or a jeepney.

Tricycle whenever possible. Taxicab or private car for longer trips.

I always let Meryll arrange the transportation. The taxi driver would look at me and say 400, before I knew she had them down to 125 PHP. :jest:

Ok everybody, what is your favorite mode of transportation in the Philippines?

In Metro Manila my least favorite is actually taxi… hmm… I wonder why?!! So whenever possible and not carrying a load of things, I prefer jeepneys for short distances and LTR/MRT for longer distances. I came to realize that jeepneys in the city are quite effective as you can easily get on and off – and besides, you only need to know how to speak two Tagalog words to the driver! Passengers, even though you are in such close confinement, seem to just keep to themselves.

Then there is the LRT/MRT. I don’t know why this isn’t mentioned more. Not as exciting as jeepneys but they are modern, air- conditioned and impervious to traffic jams. It connects all the major malls and you can actually travel from Cubao – Ortigas- Makati- Ermita FASTER than a taxi during peak.

As for adventurous I would have to say it’s the boat/banka. Some of the routes can truly be harrowing (and exciting) experiences, especially during foul weather. Or how about a nice non- air conditions bus ride, complete with snacks brought to your seat or window at every stop?!! How about a bus ride on the Helsima Hwy on a foggy day?

Shun the taxis and the hired drivers when you can and take the transportation of the masses- You may sweat a little more but you’ll walk away with a little more grit between your teeth--

I agree. The taxi has it's place but I prefer the trike. If you want to really get a fell for a place you need to emulate the locals as much as possible.

I would say trike for me. It was scary at first because of the hills, but was fun afterwhile. When ever I got into it the entire thing would sink down a good 8 inches or so.

One thing to note, many areas don't have taxis at all, then again some areas don't even have trikes, only pedicabs. It was interesting how each city had it's own version of trikes or pedicabs. Some have doors and windows, others do not, but usually almost all in each city are the same style.

Jeepneys were interesting, but felt very unsafe for me as an American. There is no way to predict when or where it will stop or who it will pick up.

I chose none of the above. I think our choice would be a FERRY BOAT WITH PRIVATE SUITE! How else can you get where you're going and get what you got together for at the same time?:lol:

Ok everybody, what is your favorite mode of transportation in the Philippines?

I prefer using a cab, then you get the whole back seat of a Toyoto just for 2.

Plus some of the cabies are intertaining. I have hired several for the entire day to take us anywhere we wanted to go. If you make them use the meter for short trips, its not really expensive

They do not want to use the meter, get another cab. We actually had two drivers on call. We call them on thier cell -they pick us up. Worked good for us.

I was there for three years for work. I drove a Harley and my Everest (like a Ford Exployer just Asian Ford MFG). I liked my buddies Harley the best. Made me buy one when I returned.

I prefer the old Trike as well when I was in Bohol and Borracay. Made them earn their pesos peddaling i kid you not, me and my buddy both go 275. One man got us to and from.... Man strong legs!

Never got guts enough to jump on a jeepne. Affraid they would charge me for two or three filipinos lol
