Hubby and I never got the chance to take a honeymoon trip, and since Gavin was born Christmas Eve, we've pushed back our honeymoon from this year to next year (we're going back to JA this year). Initially Barbados was the planned destination site, but I'm still considering other islands. For those of you that have been to other islands please post your experiences, photos, tips, etc. Thanks!

Jonesie,

I know how you feel. Since my hubby is also Jamaican citizen, we visited Barbados, St. Lucia & St. Vincent.

Barbados was a week-long trip. We stayed at Butterfly Beach Hotel in Oistens. The hotel was a 3-star at best. However, there were restaurants in the vicinity. Our room also had a kitchenette. Therefore, we cooked a few times. The bus is easy to use. If you prefer to take a stroll, there is a supermarket close to the hotel (10 min walk). On Friday, there is a fish fry in Oistens. That a chance to hang out with the locals. We had a blast at Club Xtreme (Saturday night).

I flew from Atlanta to Mo Bay. Then, my hubby and I flew on the same flight. St. Lucia was great! We rented a scooter for a day. Since the island is small, we took a mini tour. We also went to a concert where Jamaican artists performed. There are two airports. We arrived at Hewanorra Airport. That was too far from the hotel (Bay Gardens Inn). On the flip side, the hotel was conveniently located near a mini mall and the beach.

From St. Lucia we traveled to St. Vincent for a one-day trip. The island is small and there wasn't much to do. All three countries are members of Caricom. Thus, no visa is required for Jamaicans. Click on the lick for a full list of Caricom countries.

Thanks for the info. We both love music and dancing so a location with comparable nightlife to JA (if there is a such thing ) would be ideal.

I've checked out TnT but flights are so expensive from Cali, you have to sell your firstborn and promise your second for a ticket that's under $800.00.

Mrs Scott if you have any photos that you'd like to share I'd love to see them. How much did the flights cost? AirJamaica has an island hopper fare - is that the carrier you used?

good topic...I heard the same thing about DR, plus heard that even the hotel staff didn't speak english. How about the Bahamas?

I've wanted to visit other places also but wanted to make sure there was things to do. Barbados sounds good. The only issue I have with the other islands is the calypso and soca or mr. jengles would have. After two songs he's like change the music. Don't know how that will go over.

Our next trip will most likely be state side, Florida, or Vegas for our anniversary, maybe North Carolina? I heard they have a nice island. We'll most like head back to JA this summer. Then try Mexico, Bahama's or the Virgin Islands first of next year. I love JA tho, I can never get enough of it. Hubby started a home just before he left. He took me to see it one our last visit. It's high in the hills, with a view over the new resort they are building in lucea? over the peer. We're excited about finishing it. I'm just concerned about building on property that's not totally ours, what do you all thing about that? Can they take it away from you? Hubby tired to explain it to me but I said I need something in writing before I send my hard earned money down.

I have friends who love Punta Cana and Costa Rica. And, I have a friend who lives in Aruba. If anyone ever goes there, I can hook you up. I hear Aruba has a good JA vibe going on.

We are looking at Mexico IF we ever get to go on a vacation anytime soon.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Great topic.

We went to Aruba last May to visit Damien's mother. Aruba is beautiful although most of it is desert....kinda reminds me of Texas but next to the beach...strange. It was hot but strong winds all day. We stayed at the Mill Resort and Suites but don't recommend because it was not near anything. Damien's mother and aunt had cars so we didn't have to worry about transportation.

Aruba can be expensive. Luckily we got a good deal on a airfare and hotel ($750 each) for 5 days. Sometimes the airfare alone is $600 from DC. I'm always checking rates for Damien. Food was expensive - $35 on breakfast one morning and dinner cost $60-80.

It didn't seem to be much of a nightlife there...at least not for us. Yes, there is a JA community there so that helped. We did tourist and non-tourist things and we didn't find the locals to be friendly....not all.

However, it is very quiet and romantic...nice place for a honeymoon. Radisson Aruba and Renissance Aruba were nice hotels.
