I went this monday to get my stamp at the St Louis office, I got the 1 year extention on the my passport (temporary I-551) but the officier took my old expired green card away. (...) Wanted to double check, is it normal that they took the card away?

Yes, it seems to be, compare for example with the memo, posted repeatedly in this thread.

That you got a one-year extension gives me hope for Monday when I plan to visit our local office and ask for the stamp. I really don't want to go there every 2 month for a new stamp, but be done with it for this year.

27 Feb 08 Still Waiting ;(

I went this monday to get my stamp at the St Louis office, I got the 1 year extention on the my passport (temporary I-551) but the officier took my old expired green card away. The officer said that the stamp replace the green card. Kind of scare me at first but it seems to be normal. Any way, the card is expired and I still have my extension paper. So I guess I should be good for another year of waiting. I am considering the N-400

Wanted to double check, is it normal that they took the card away?

That would scare me. Do you have a copy of it at home? The N-400 asks for copies of the card.

Ps. Don't let ME scare you, I really have no idea what I'm talking about.

When does your letter expire? Just curious, trying to figure out when to have my husband get his stamp (his letter expires in May).

No I don't trust my life in what one guy said ,I did a lot of research and I know quite a few people who chose not to apply for citizenship and they are still permanent residents in this country . Some of them did not leave the country anymore some did .The british guy is just one of those people who is living on an expired GC and ...he's fine !!! He's got more travel immigration stamps in his passport then I do so ....

So then I guess it shouldn't really much matter if you get your 10 year card, since it's OK to walk around with an expired one. Stop stressing and just go get an infopass and forget about it.

Like I said ,I'm not looking for another extension ....all I want is that stupid card to put an end to this nonsense

For me this will be the end of the line with USCIS

These are the processing times for certain applications types filed according to USCIS website

http://www.uscis.gov/files/nativedocuments/15jan08_FAQs.pdf

* Naturalization applications may take approximately 16-18 months to process;

* Family-based adjustment-of-status applications may take 10-12 months; and

* Immigrant petitions for relatives and workers may take 9-10 months.

I have an Info pass for Monday and I'm curios how will they interpratate this ,it's coming from their website so.... could this be another BS ???

What is your Info Pass for? Did you get your new passport to get your stamp yet? Oh, and explain to me the whole Info Pass thing for Cleveland. You called when? Do you get to pick what day you want to come? Or how does that work? I'm trying to figure out when my husband should call to go down there for his stamp. Good luck Monday!

You can request an Info Pass if you are outside the processing date or if you think something is wrong in your case .

Yes ,you can schedule your own time ,just go to :

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis

and click on Info Pass icon .The process is really easy to follow. You don't have to call them just set your appointment in their website . Thank you !

UPDATE on my husband's Removal of Conditions....

In January, a friend of my husband's who works for the Dept of Homeland Security, asked someone the director of our local office to file a Service Request (we have been waiting since Jan 2007). We heard nothing. Last week this person contacted my husband to find out if the SR helped and he told him NO.

Today in the mail we received a letter for an interview on March 20. Although I am ecstatic to have information, I am seething to have to provide, one more time, all that evidence, all the papers, all the copies of tax forms, etc., etc., etc. You send it to them, why do they want it again?

This time the paperwork did ask for more, they want evidence that we have been living together since the date of marriage through the date of our interview. I don't know if that's standard, probably is. ANYWAY... I should not complain, my husband will be ecstatic (he is actually out of the country, his first visit to his Mom in 4 years, btw, he went on the I-551 stamp)

I will update you all when we have the interview in 20 days.

Be happy !

You provide all the papers/evidences they want and HELL WITH THEM .

I will always take another interview instead of this long wait

For them we are just like mushrooom ,kept in the dark and feed with S**T

That seems to be the case with USCIS

Have nothing to worry about and good luck !

Hi, mew5280. I am glad to see you are making process on your husband's case. My local office is also Denver. We have sent in all the evidence we can think of, following the guidelines from VJ. What else evidence could they possibly still ask for ? I am just curious. Anyways good luck with the interview and would you please let me know what EXTRA evidence they wanted? I am kinda confused.

That you got a one-year extension gives me hope for Monday when I plan to visit our local office and ask for the stamp. I really don't want to go there every 2 month for a new stamp, but be done with it for this year.

Good news! I got my I-551 stamp today with 12-months duration.

I had made an Infopass appointment (reason: speak to an immigration officer) and brought with me the following documents:

- Infopass notice

- old Green Card

- NOA

- passport, valid for more than a year

As supporting documents, I had brought:

- print-out of memorandum CRextensn120203.pdf (attached to this thread and also to pinned thread on top of thread list)

- biometrics notice

- my company's badge

- table of NSC processing time w/ I-751 in jul06

I arrived 15min before my Infopass time, went thru security, and was called up 5min after the Infopass time. I gave the immigration officer my Green Card and said that I was a permanent resident. Then I gave him the NOA and told him that my proof of residence had just expired yesterday. Last I gave him my passport and asked for a 12-months extension of my proof of residence.

The immigration officer looked on the documents and entered something on his keyboard, presumingly checking my status online. He didn't ask any question at first, but disappeared into a back corner with my passport to stamp it. I thought, well, I get a stamp, but I cannot give him my spiel now that I want a 12-months duration and not some 2-months or so. When he came back, he wrote by hand into the fields of the stamp, and I saw that I got an extension until Mar 2009 - relieve! He tucked my old Green Card to a print-out and kept it. He then asked if I wanted to travel, which I denied, and I pointed out that I need the stamp instead to enter facilities of my company that are closed to foreigners without escort and where they don't know me personally. He didn't ask for any proof of that and didn't ask any further question. I thanked him and left with my passport with the stamp.

If I would have been offered a stamp with only 2 or 6 months duration, I was prepared to argue for a 12-months stamp, according to the memorandum. I would have asked if the memorandum had been superseded and, if not, to speak to a supervisor, to get a 12-months duration. I intended to use my company's badge as indication that I indeed need proof of my legal residence. I wanted to show the table of current NSC processing times, from which I would expect another 6.5 month wait for my 10-year Green Card, leading to a repeated visit if given a stamp with 6 month duration or less. I tried to start out the conversation friendly, but I was tense, and my voice may have sounded demanding at the beginning. At the end, I was happy.

Peter T's passport stamp added (12-months I-551).

List of I-751 to NSC, ordered by date on NOA, after the last known approval in 2007 (NOA 06-Dec-06)

and before the first known transfer to CSC (NOA 05-Aug-07)

Names ordered by date on NOA instead of date of I-751, because NOA is the date relevant to USCIS.

01/15/08..........02/10/07

02/15/08..........07/05/06 (yes, they went backwards)

Please check your data for correctness.
