Im about to file a K1 for my Fiancee, Ive been married in the past and have been divorced for over 8 years from a marriage that took place in the Philippines, the divorce took place here in the states, now do I also have to give a copy to the Philippine national statistic office as well ? or will it be satisfactory that I just give my fiancee a copy of the decree that she can take with her to the interview ?

Hi, I am not really so sure about this. As far as I know if the marriage took place in the Philippines, we don't have divorce there only annulment. So, if thats the case you might be still married in the Philippines. Maybe you should check the National Statistic Office or any offices there that knows your present status. If your marriage was been terminated, you should give a copy of your divorce decree to your fiancee because the american embassy will look for it. Hope I help you in any way.

If they are like other consulates they want a true copy from the clerks office with the court seal, you can usually order one from the county courthouse for a couple bucks.

The consulate doesnt give a hoot what the filipinos honor or dont honor. They will honor the same divorce decree that CIS honored as long as your divorce decree issued by any state judge.

Your divorce from a Filipina would only be a problem if you wanted to marry another Filipina in the PI. The US Consulate is the only government entity that needs to accept your divorce, in a K1 situation. The PI government has no jurisdiction over a US Citizen in the US immigration process.

We had the same concern she was married in 1994 in the Philippines and she was abandon 6 months later

eventual she moved to Hong Kong to work

this year she applied for divorce in HK it took 3 months to finalize but in the back of my mind CENMOR would show she was still married in Philippines

I did my checking and found that the US consulate will except her divorce decree from HK

Like in last post she just cant marry in the PI again ....why would she she has me
