Can anyone vouch for emailing or calling the embassy and speaking to them? Is it really as difficult or expensive as I think it is?

Cause I would really like to hear this information from someone at the embassy...

Oh ye of little faith......

You cannot call the extortion line from the US, and its is something like 1.99 GPB per minute. Emailing is a possibility, but there is no guarantee that they'll respond.

My cosponsor brings up a good point.

What's the point of having several year old tax returns notarized?

The 'extortion line' is a flat rate of $16 for 7 minutes. Lunacy!

It's not necessarily me of little faith, but my father :P

Hmmm, when Griff called them in July they charged him the 1.99 GBP....either way a total ripoff!!!

Anyhooo...I distinctly remember Dawny&Tommy going for a K1 in Aug this year and they were told they needed to supply supporting tax docs before the Visa would be issued. So, since it cost me nothing to get the transcripts, I got them and am submitting them.

I wish RosemarieL would pass through here. She recently posted somewhere that she submitted her fiance's last years tax transcript with the I-134 at interview.

RE the paystubs, from what I understand, those are a nice to have, but not necessary.

I believe if you are submitting copies of your tax returns that they must be notarized abd you must also include the supporting W2. However, if you order an official tax transcript from the IRS, the notarization and W2 is not needed.

She did

The tax return provided by my fiance was not notarised so although I took it with me to the interview I initially only gave them the pay stubs, letter from employer, bank details and savings. When I was called up for the second part of the interview they specifically requested the tax return so I guess the other evidence was deemed insufficient by London Embassy.

The tax return does not need to be notarized - you signed it previously (when you filed) so it is a moot point.

You need to notarize the I-134 - that's all.

There isn't. If your evidence is insufficient - you will be asked to provide it & then they will make a decision.

When you go to the embassy, someone initially takes your paperwork and fingerprints you. After that, you are then called for the actaul interview. I believe that is what Rosemarie was getting at.
