Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Arrived half an hour early, and spent 20 minutes in queue for my 0800 appointment. Security went quick enough as I'd made sure to leave everything I wouldn't need in my hotel room. Took about an hour for me to be called to the check-in window where I handed over my birth certificate (both the original copy in Dutch, as well as the international version), my police report (VOG), and my marriage certificate (Minnesota certificate, with Minnesota Department of State apostille as I'd previously used it to register my marriage in the Netherlands).

At check-in I also gave my fingerprints, and was asked when I'd intend to travel. As my intended travel date is after my 2-year anniversary the lady suggested I let them keep my passport and they would put the visa in it after my anniversary so it would be less of a hassle at the border and it'd be the IR-1 straightaway. Was then sent back to the waiting area.

At about 0940 I was called up for the interview. After be... read complete review

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

On October 18 I had my interview appointment @7:30AM.
I arrived @Frankfurt a day earlier by car, driving from Gouda Netherlands in a 5 hour commute.
I stayed at Hotel Arena Villa am Wasserpark, a block away from the US Consulate.
For people who have an early appointment is it a good option for a hotel. Only parking is expensive €15,-/night.
I parked my car on the street which is for free.

I arrived at Consulate @06:45AM and I was sure I would be the first in line. But I was mistaken. There were 3 people in front of me. So I was the forth person together with my US wife. At 07:10AM Window 1 opened and my turn to approach the window was 5 minutes later. The lady behind the window asked for our passport. I received a little paper stated "Immigrant Visa I 101 7:17AM 10/18/2024 Case ID:89226" and we were directed to go to wait in front of desk number 15-21 once inside the main building, after Security which was next door. My wife had a Apple watc... read complete review

I arrived at 08:15 for my 08:30 appointment, as recommended in the email. I would recommend getting there at least half an hour early, I think that would have saved me an hour of wait time inside. Most of the people in line are there for tourist visa's. The list I glanced at only had around 7 names for an IV. The IV interviews just take longer, so if you manage to get there before a few of them it'll save you a lot of time.

I ended up waiting in line till 08:50 to sign in. Once that was done it took until about 09:30 before I was allowed in and through security.
Once inside I had to wait all the way in the back (15-21 I believe). I waited until 10:05 to hand in my documents, and then had to wait another hour before my interview.

The interview itself was fairly simple and only took 10 minutes. Most of which was just the interviewer typing stuff. She asked where me and my husband met, where he was stationed and will be stationed afterwards, if this... read complete review

Had an easy process at the embassy. My appointment was at 08:30, I arrived at 08:00 to a short line. Got to one of the two outside windows, handed over my passport and my DS-160. Got the passport back with a ticket nr attached and was instructed to move to security. Security was fast, efficient, friendly but very strict. Make sure you don't have backpacks or laptops on you - they cannot hold them for you. I had an AirTag, they held it at security.

After security I walked through a courtyard ("Follow the green lines"), there's security every step of the way so it's impossible to get lost. I sat down in the main hall in front of window 15-21. There's (uncomfortable) plastic chairs, a restroom, a clock, and two water fountains. My wait until I got called for my first step was about 30 minutes.

The first time you are called to a window, it is to check the documents. I spoke to a nice lady who attentively walked through all the files. I was correctly prepared ... read complete review

For my 09:30 interview appointment at the US consulate in Frankfurt, I arrived early, at 07:30. There was a line and had to wait about 30 minutes until it was my turn at the first window. I had to hand over my passport and was given a service number. My husband was with me and also he had to show his passport. They wished me good luck with the interview.
Security check went smooth. I had a bag with the paperwork me, got asked if there were no laptops and/or phones inside my back.

Inside the main building, I was asked to sit in front of windows 15-23 (immigrant visas). After about 30 minutes my number was on the screen, it was my turn for the check-in. I handed over my (original) birth certificate, police clearance and marriage certificate, and 1 recently taken photograph. They asked me if I already had done the medical exam. I confirmed, and then they saw it on the screen. Fingerprints of both hands were taken. The consular officer was very friendly.
