Hi there,

Not sure if this is the correct place but I'm looking for help for me and my girlfriends future.

I live in New Zealand currently in America on tourist visa

She is from the US

We want to be together as soon as possible

What visa is best for this. I have 8 days left in the states so I'm unsure if we're able To get married in that time but we definitely want to start the progress we are just unsure on where to start. Any advice for the clueless? I'm wanting to move here aswell if that helps

Another Kiwi :)

Good luck, hopefully its faster than my experience. I've been married to a US Citizen for 9 years and we are currently trying to immigrate from NZ to the US. We are at 390 days since we sent in our initial petition and still have another 30-45 days left.

Others will be able to give you advice on the K1 visa process but don't be surprised if there is a decent wait. Unsure if you will be able to stay in the US once your 8 days are up.

Be patient, read everything 100 times to make sure you understand it correctly and make use of VisaJourney.

An alternative would be to bring your girlfriend/fiance to NZ and then apply for the Visas from here. I have had friends that did that so they could stay together throughout the process.

Good luck!

I’m in NZ at the moment currrntly waiting for my K1 to be approved. It’s a long wait but seems to be speeding up slowly. I’m at 108 days waiting but people are in their 200 days. Average seems to be about 170 day wait at the moment.

Oh wow how did you apply for it? Did you do it via new Zealand or online in the states. Also a question about the next process once you're married in America, is your partner going to sponsor you if so what is the average income or minimum for someone to sponsor you for the next step in your visa me and my partner don't currently have jobs mostly due to our current trip together so we can spend as much time with each other I just haven't been able to find anywhere about the average cost needed for the us citizen to sponsor after the marriage or sorta what happens or what the next step is. If you feel comfortable letting. Me. Know from your experience that would be amazing.

We did it as a combined effort. He filled out the majority of the forms and I composed evidence of our relationship (photos together, plane ticket stubs of visiting etc) once I had finished doing the evidence, I emailed it to him and he put it all together with the necessary bits and bobs and we sent it off.

He is going to be my sponsor, I believe the minimum income is 20k a year? I’m not too sure (USD that is), but if you can always get a co sponsor if you don’t meet the minimum requirements.

You don’t have to file in the States though. It all has to be mailed to USCIS so you can file from anywhere. Just print everything out.
