Case status not available online

We received NOA1 today. It's dated 10/31/17 but it does not show online. I get the following message

  • My Case Status does not recognize the receipt number entered. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283.

Anyone else having the same issue?

There will be a new receipt number on the biometrics appointment letter which will work.

However, the status will not be updated between receipt and card production, so isn't much good either.

Why is that? Or is this how I 751 process works?

Well, it's not how it's meant to work, but it is what happens.

Here's what I think they intended.

  1. Our file is accepted, which triggers an update. (which it does)
  2. Everything the USCIS officers do with our files (issue the biometrics letter, send RFEs, schedule interviews, approve our files) triggers an update. (this doesn't happen - either nothing is automated in this process, or the computers aren't "talking" to each other)
  3. After our files are approved, it goes to the card production people, and each step (card production, card is mailed out) triggers an update (which it does)

So, unfortunately, the whole 12-16 month process where they have our files actually at USCIS is a complete mystery, since nothing triggers an update to our case status.

Long story. I explained it here:

They also explain it on your NOA letter. I know it's a long letter, most people don't read it fully. Down towards the end it mentions how to check online status with the receipt of ASC (biometrics) appointment letter and it will be listed as CRI89, etc.
