We filled for the k1 fiancée visa in November 2015. My fiancé n I had our interview June 2 2016. Everything was going good until the medical. He told them he did marijuana when be was 16 years old so the day of his interview they denied the visa. N banned him for a year. They gave him a letter saying that on May 31 2017 he should return and do another medical exam and he needs to come out clean. What does that mean ? Do we JUST show up and do a medical exam again ? Or do we need to redo the whole case again n start all over ? I'm so confused. Oh n next year he will be 21 years old... I don't know if that would affect anything.

This is an older thread, but you can read through it for info > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/439493-one-year-ban-from-drug-use/

You will need to contact the consulate when it is time to redo the medical. I would contact them a little bit before the 1 year ban is over so that they can instruct you on what to do.

Was the denial based on the admission of use or having found drugs in his system during the medical?

Regardless, he has the year ban now so he has to stay clean and show proof of it. Usually during this time (the 1 year) he would go for routine drug test. After the year is up he can refile and submit those clean drug test results to immigration.

There is an active poster on VJ who is currently going through it with her fiance. Lioness is her name I believe. Hopefully she can provide more insight.

Don't have to refile, and the people dealing with this issue at CDJ did not need to keep getting checked while waiting out their ban, though it is not a bad idea to do anyway. Some have another medical and interview, others simply have another medical without need of another interview.
