Expedite process questions

This past weekend I sent email to the NVC expedite address to ask for fast process for my step-daughter's IR-2 visa ap so she can travel with her mom before Oct.

I have 2 initial questions:

1. How long does it take for them to reply to my request.

2. What does the approval expedite exactly? Just the 6-8 week time intervals to review paperwork or are there other things that could happen more rapidly?

Wouldn't have had to ask for this if USCIS had not made a total mess of my application last year.

i was approved on my request to expedite the process of my application at NVC. check my timeline below thats how fast the expedite is..

So that is only 17 days from the time you mailed AOS / IV to NVC until at USEM!

I can only hope mine gets approved also.

What did you have to expedite your case? We are living in Argentina (I am from the US & our 3 children were born in the US, as well) & we are trying to do the spousal visa for my husband to immigrate. This process is taking much longer than I had expected. What qualifies the case to be expedited?

Our goal is now to be in the US, by August. Our son has to start Kindergarten on August 24. Plus, I am type 1 diabetic and am down to less than 4 bottles of insulin here. I can buy some here, but the bottle is different. Yes, I could just leave with the kids, but since we are a family, would like to do the process together. My husband has a tourist visa so he could travel to, but we want to spousal visa.

Is this something that we could validly ask for it to be expedited? Please share your thoughts if you know. Thank you!

NVC will only send expedited request to the embassy if USCIS has approved your case. USEM will takeover the case to confirm your submission like Affidavit of Support, Police clearances, and filling-up of DS-260 in which case your approved status will be deemed final upon your final interview with the local embassy .

Only approved and valid reasons will be expedited. Not all cases are expedited even if you send an expedite request.

This is totally outside my realm of knowledge (why I asked the original question) but.....

I doubt that enrolling kids in school or running out of insulin is a qualifying reason for expedite.

Hopefully you have already started the IR-1(or CR-1 depending on timing). For MNL cases, start to finish can be anywhere from 9-15 months. Since you are residing in Argentina, maybe DCF is an option? Again depends on your length of stay in AR and I have no idea of time span from start to finish.

If your I-130 has been approved by USCIS and your papers are at the NVC and you have a case # there is no harm in asking for expedite. Worst they can say is no.
