Hi Everyone, i would like to ask a question regarding form I-864 affidavit of support. When i got the case complete email last year, i recieved a checklist which said that i have some missing information in my I-864 and i will need to correct that and send it to the applicant so that she can bring it with her on the day of interview. Now one year has passed and my wife just received her interview.

My question is will i need to write all the updated information in that I-864 with 2014 tax data or can i just correct the mistake i made last time and write down the original information i had in my I-864? Please Help me if you have experience in this.

I am not expert but its tricky situation. As per email, correct mistake that you made. I have seen lot of times they asked for current tax returns and w2s but not new I 864 form. Send the old i864 form(with correction). Worse case senerio they will approve the visa and asked her to resubmitt form again. It happened my my inlaws. I submitted wrong form, so they resubmitted correct form and got visa in one week after that.

Good luck on interview. Make one envelope for old forms and copies of taxes and make one envelope with new details. This way your spouse wont get mixed up. Sometimes nervousness of interview( scared by relatives) is enough to make mistakes. I might have petitioned 10 people so far and in all interviews, i have prepared them well and asked them to answer honestly and confidently.

10 people? wow you are really experienced with this now:). You are right about all the pressure at the time of the interview.

For the taxes, are tax transcript good enough or do i have to send them the full tax return document?

Expiration of the I-864

Collapse All
Will the I-864 I submitted expire if my relative's interview is delayed for any reason?

No, the validity of the I-864, I-864 EZ, or I-864A is considered indefinite; beginning from the date the sponsor files it with the National Visa Center or the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

This means that old I864 or corrected is good but as year changed for Tax year, they want to look at new tax returns to verify that sponsor is still capable of supporting immigrant. so no need for new detailed I864 because old one is as good.
