Question about medial at POE

My fiance got her medical check and did not get the vaccinations, but I think these are not required to enter the country right? They are required when she gets her social security card? I was reading POE reviews and some people said they look at your medical documents. What are they checking for? What if she does not have all the vaccines?

This appears to be for a K1. Vaccinations are checked when you file your adjustment of status. At POE they are looking at the visa itself and what is in the sealed envelope.

Seasonal vaccination like the flu is required only if it is the correct season at the time of the medical checkup, not when you file the adjustment of status. I added this last part here to help you not get ripped off by civil surgeons here in the states like they did me.

There is a sealed envelope? Do you mean the medical envelope she takes to the interview, or is she supposed to have a sealed envelope for POE? What if she opened it? I better ask her haha.

I believe the vaccinations encouraged before POE

but definitely required before AOS filing.

Usually it should be cheaper to get it done overseas,

because once you do it in US with civil surgeon doctor,

they will often require a full medical exam again and

it could run $500 ~ $1000 to get all the shots and the exam.

Take a look at her medical exam and vaccination log report,

and find out from her clearly as to what happened.

Did they give her a choice and she opted out?

Or did she provided evidence of prior vaccination history.

There is no vaccination check for SS card,

but when you file AOS, they will recheck the medical exam and vaccinations again.

I wonder if my health insurance covers those vaccinations. I believe they gave her a choice and she opted out. Ok, well my main concern was that we would have trouble at POE, and it appears that is not the case now.

Thank you!

Health insurance might cover the shots, but any shots she gets in US needs to be

transcribed to I-693 by a civil surgeon, and most would require another full medical exam

which can cost $500+.

You need to update the timeline.

But if she already had the medical exam and refused the shot,

and already had the interview, then it might be too late to get it in China.

Oh yes I can update my timeline now. I did not want to update it because our case was in AP until a few days ago. I did not want to post details of our case on here during that time.

It is too late for her to get the shots in China, we will just have to do it in USA.

Thank you for the information!

If she can get the shots done in china, have them entered in international shot record book.. [its yellow in colour].

regardless of your insurance plan, a civil surgeon will not accept your insurance.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I wonder what my insurance company will do if I send them the bill

I can pay with my HSA if nothing else, so at least it will be tax free.

Hope she did NOT! open it?

It says right on the front of the SEALED envelope DO NOT OPEN!

Could cause problems at POE if opened.
