Payphones at Montreal Consulate

Question for someone who recently had their interview in Montreal: I have read that the payphones there do not work? is there anyone who can tell me for sure either way? I know some people have been able to leave their phones at the counter or something, but since the consulate website specifically says not to bring phones because the have no where to put them, I'm not sure I want to risk it....

They will take ur cell phone, they will give you a claim ticket...I'm sure recent interviewees will confirm that....But they will not allow u to take in big bags, nor will they store that for u.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

That must be new about the bags and other items,,as they used to turn people away.

They used to not let you in the door with a bag. I just left everything other than my appointment letter and binders of evidence at the hotel. I wasn't risking it.

It was odd, when i was there they let one older lady through with a purse. But I saw them later turning away a lady with a small bag.

Why are you worried about having a phone in the consulate? i just called my husband after I got back to the hotel.

They didn't allow phones when I was there, but I saw quite a few large bags and purses. Personally I wouldn't risk it. We left everything locked up at the hotel. They don't seem very consistent with their rules.

Oh, and to answer your question, I didn't even notice pay phones when I was there. Nerves I guess :) .

Well decided to go ahead and try to take it with me, and it was not a problem at all...the screening officers acted like they expected me to have one and had no issue whatsoever with holding on to it for me. Thanks for everyone's help! oh and Dualie, about the payphones...I guess I was nervous too, I never even checked to see if they were actually there lol :blush:

Nice!! its such a long and sometimes frustrating process but the end result is so rewarding! :yes: Such a great feeling to finally get to the end! Now I am taking a break from thinking about paperwork for awhile until after the wedding :)
