Hi,

Do you think SMEF-COW will allow me to have seminar, though in my passport I am still using maiden name. I am married abroad to a norwegian. I didn't do report of marriage yet to the philippine consulate.

Is there anybody same experience like me. Note: I prepared marriage certificate authenticated by Philippine consulate here.

Thanks for reply.

You are clearly exempted from attending the seminar. good.gif

Who are exempted from attending Guidance and Counseling Services?

The following are exempt from attending the counseling program:

* Filipino spouses and other partners previously granted permanent residence status in the country of destination; or>

* Filipino spouses and other partners with permanent residence visa issued abroad.

However, you will have to register with CFO thru online registration.

How can Filipinos residing or working outside the Philippines, and holding immigrant visa or permanent residence status register with CFO? Do they need to return to the Philippines for the registration?

Filipinos residing or working outside the Philippines whose immigrant or residence visas were issued abroad may avail of the remote (on-line registration or by facsimile). Only those residing or working outside the Philippines whose immigrant or permanent residence visas are issued abroad may avail of this registration.

Hi, you have a point there, but I am holding temporary residence permit through family immigration (spouse sponsor renewable every year) issued in norway. From the list of the exemption, it says permanent residence visa.

Can you explain it more, sorry I am really confused here. I am wasn't aware of this CFO thing, coz I moved to Norway from Dubai. It was just a snap when I searched online if there's any documents or anything I should prepare because I am going to Philippines for vacation this week. To be honest, its been nights thinking about this.

Thank you very much for your reply.

How about you send an email to CFO & direct all your questions to them? http://www.cfo.gov.ph/index.php?option=com_contact&view=contact&id=1&Itemid=841

or call them :

CFO Manila Location Tel. (+632) 552-4700

My guess is that they are going to tell you that regardless if it's a temporary or permanent residence visa or permit issued abroad, you are still exempted. But I could be wrong.

Good info! So I'm a permanent resident of Singapore and I'm applying for K1 visa - does this mean I am exempted from the CFO seminar? I've emailed this question to their website; I hope they reply soon! But pls correct me if I misinterpreted the statement. Thanks :)

You will generally get more or better responses to your questions if you start your own thread with those questions. The seminar is conducted based on where you are going and for what purpose. Filipino spouses and fiance/es have their own seminar to attend. You will get a certificate and registration sticker. The sticker cannot be obtained until the visa(K-1 in your case) is issued, but you can attend the seminar any time before the visa issuance and receive the certificate. It is a two step process. If you do the seminar and receive the certificate, then get your visa, you would need to return to CFO, show visa and certificate, and get your sticker. If you attend the seminar after you get the visa, you will be given the certificate and can get the sticker in the same trip.
