Can anyone explain to me if I need to apply for both Cr1 & K3 with AOS?

I am just not clear on the options and benefits of either routs?

Hi. I strongly recommend reading the guides, and exploring the other links at the top of the page instead of posting in a thread not on this topic...Here's an overview answer to your question.

CR-1 Visa:

Green card issued upon arrival (Immigrant visa - you are a resident when you arrive)

About the same time as K3

Less money in fees

K3 Visa:

Must apply for AOS once arrived (NON-immigrant visa - you must apply for residency when you arrive)

About the same time as CR-1

More money in fees.

K-1:

January 28, 2009: NOA1

June 4, 2009: Interview - APPROVED!!!

October 11, 2009: Wedding

AOS:

December 23, 2009: NOA1!

January 22, 2010: Bogus RFE corrected through congressional inquiry "EAD waiting on biometrics only" Read about it here.

March 15, 2010: AOS interview - RFE for I-693 vaccination supplement - CS signed part 6!

March 27, 2010: Green Card recieved

ROC:

March 1, 2012: Mailed ROC package

March 7, 2012: Tracking says "notice left"...after a phone call to post office.

More detailed time line in profile.

Well, my grandma did everything she could to get the Joint Sponsor documents to my husband before his second interview, but they had to go from Alaska to El Salvador. They didn't arrive on time. They arrived today, but his interview was yesterday.

Now, he has to have a third interview.... and I have to go to it. This will happen on the 22nd. I have too much stuff at work to go before then...

So, more time and more money. I'm exhausted.

I pray that all went well at the interveiw. I has a similar experience and scanned a copy of my bank statement showing my monthly deposits and it was accepted by the embassy

Thanks so much for your warm wishes. Things did go well.... in that the visa was approved and my husband now has his docs in hand!

The embassy ended up still needing the Joint Sponsor because, regardless of what I make right now, my taxes show that last year I made hardly anything.

Oh well, too tired and relieved to care anymore. Yay for grandma and yay for the fact that my hubby will be here in 6 days!

Hi

does a co sponsor for a CR-1 visa for my wife in the Philippines (in my case a sister). Does my sister have to be living with me? Can I use her as a co-sponsor even though we do not live in the same household?
