Visiting on VWP while studying at home country's university

Maybe I'm overthinking this, but... I know I can't study in the US while I'm there on VWP, but should I encounter any problems if I tell the CO at POE that I will be writing my MA thesis (at the Norwegian university I'm a student at) while visiting? Am I right in thinking that the VWP rule only applies to studying, for credits, at a US institution?

I'm just covering my bases in case I'm asked what I'm going to do while my fiancee is at work. I also have a confirmation letter (as proof of needing to return after my 88 days) from my department saying I'm registered to submit my thesis in November this year.

If you are just writing the thesis, that is fine. If you are"working on"your thesis by doing research at US university libraries etc, you probably need a student visa.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

If you are just writing the thesis, that is fine. If you are"working on"your thesis by doing research at US university libraries etc, you probably need a student visa.

Nah, all the research is done, "just" the actual writing left. Thank you. :)
